If you’re planning to explore the northern Lakes, our Keswick camping site on the shores of Derwentwater is hard to beat as a base for your explorations.

The site boasts a prime location in the north of the Lake District with stunning views extending over the lake to the hills beyond. Keswick campsite is an organised campsite with good facilities – showers, toilets, washing up area, a laundry and a new backpacker room, particularly useful for those arriving on foot or by bike. Keswick town is within walking distance and ticks all the boxes for provisions, outdoor gear, eating and drinking.

Whether you’re a stroller, a rambler, a high-level walker or prefer to see the sights on two wheels, you can take your pick from numerous lake- and hillside tracks and trails easily accessible from Keswick campsite. Skiddaw is also easily reached from site. And, with Derwentwater so close at hand there’s no shortage of water-based activities to dip into. This stretch of water is popular for canoeing and kayaking. For a small fee you can launch directly from the Sites shoreline.

Fishing can be enjoyed on the lake too. Try the eastern shore or hire a boat from one of the marinas and head to the centre of the lake to catch pike, bream and trout.

For a less energetic way to enjoy the water and the views board one of the motor launches which operate around the lake and offer several drop off points.

At the southern end of Derwentwater is the beautiful valley of Borrowdale where you’ll find the Neolithic Castlerigg Stone Circle and the medieval and much photographed pack horse bridge at Ashness.

View our other campsites in the Lake District if you would like to explore what else we have to offer in the area.

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available.

Worth Noting

Please do not arrive on site before 1pm due to restricted access to site. Only one car per pitch at all times. Canoes and windsurfers charged 50% of boat launching fees. Due to the possibility of site flooding all units must have a towing vehicle on site overnight and there may be restrictions on the availability of pitches and use of awnings. Poor TV reception. Site has discount vouchers for The Theatre by the Lake. Glamping pods available. We are unable to provide a motorhome stop off facility.

Eat Local

There is a farmers' market in Keswick on Thursdays and Saturdays.

This site is an excellent site for hiking.

This review is for Keswick

This site is an excellent site for hiking. We adore the Lakes and walk the hills and fells all day long. The site is also good if you want to get out and about on your dingy or small boat. All sorts to do in the town centre of an evening Plenty of eateries, restaurants,or go further afield to Penrith. The facilities were always warm,no queues, and kept reasonably clean. The staff on site are a let down this year.As customers we expect good customer service. This is not so with this year's staff, especially the manager who seems in a different world of his own.Don't think he has been to charm school, but we have booked again, can't wait.

The site is excellent as stated.

The site is excellent as stated.l would have liked to stop longer, but we had to leave due to really bad weather, and the site was due to flood.I cannot understand why the staff allowed us in to a campsite that is due to flood. This must be down to a really poor management decision allowing people to book in as well.We went to another site and enjoyed our stay in the Lakes. No complaints about Keswick Campsite, the facilities are top notch.

My first time here and even at the end of February it was nearly full.

My first time here and even at the end of February it was nearly full. Despite being busy with a stream of arrivals the staff were extremely pleasant and had time for everyone. I can see why it's so popular, being on the lake with a beautiful view yet close to town, and Kendal is the perfect place for us dog owners with pubs & shops all dog-friendly, even the Pencil Museum! My only criticism would be that fresh water is only available on the exit road making for a bit of a tour, but otherwise full marks and I will certainly return.

This site is fantastic, it's well run with friendly staff. The facilities are spotless. It's just beside Derwent Water which was so tranquil and beautiful. The site is situated 5 mins walk into Keswick town centre, market day was Thursday and gave a variety of stalls. Will be going back to this site we loved it.
