If you’re planning to explore the northern Lakes, our Keswick Club campsite on the shores of Derwentwater is hard to beat as a base for your explorations.

The site boasts a prime location in the north of the Lake District with stunning views extending over the lake to the hills beyond. Keswick is an organised campsite with good facilities – showers, toilets, washing up area, a laundry and a new backpacker room, particularly useful for those arriving on foot or by bike. Keswick town is within walking distance and ticks all the boxes for provisions, outdoor gear, eating and drinking.

Whether you’re a stroller, a rambler, a high-level walker or prefer to see the sights on two wheels, you can take your pick from numerous lake- and hillside tracks and trails easily accessible from Keswick campsite. Skiddaw is also easily reached from site. And, with Derwentwater so close at hand there’s no shortage of water-based activities to dip into. This stretch of water is popular for canoeing and kayaking. For a small fee you can launch directly from the Sites shoreline.

Fishing can be enjoyed on the lake too. Try the eastern shore or hire a boat from one of the marinas and head to the centre of the lake to catch pike, bream and trout.

For a less energetic way to enjoy the water and the views board one of the motor launches which operate around the lake and offer several drop off points.

At the southern end of Derwentwater is the beautiful valley of Borrowdale where you’ll find the Neolithic Castlerigg Stone Circle and the medieval and much photographed pack horse bridge at Ashness.

Worth Noting

Please do not arrive on site before 1pm due to restricted access to site. Only one car per pitch at all times. Canoes and windsurfers charged 50% of boat launching fees. Due to the possibility of site flooding all units must have a towing vehicle on site overnight and there may be restrictions on the availability of pitches and use of awnings. Poor TV reception. Site has discount vouchers for The Theatre by the Lake. Glamping pods available. We are unable to provide a motorhome stop off facility.

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available.

Eat Local

There is a farmers' market in Keswick on Thursdays and Saturdays.

We love Keswick and this site is the perfect place to stay.

This review is for Keswick

We love Keswick and this site is the perfect place to stay. Stayed here last year and it was a week of rain, this year we had snow & sun, beautiful, whatever the weather I never tire of the views. The site has undergone some big improvements and I can't wait to come back. The staff are very helpful and always cheery, even when they are getting soaked in a seasonal downpour. I would recommend this site to anyone looking for a little bit of paradise. Love it.

Stayed here for the first time. What a stunning location.

Stayed here for the first time. What a stunning location. Surrounded by the lake district hills, Catbells, and on Derwent Water. The site is beautifully kept and maintained. The shower and toilet blocks are modern and very clean. The staff are super friendly and efficient. It sits close to Keswick, a few minutes walk from good food supermarkets, restaurants, takeaways and shops. The site has everything, and is an absolute gem. Ducks, geese and pheasants wander among the hardstandings. This idyllic setting is reflected in the price they charge.Walks around Dertwent water, up Skiddaw and around abound. You don't need a car. Certainly one of the best sites we have visited. Our only slight criticism is that there is only one motorhome service point on a large site, and the waste grate is only 3ft x 3ft at most, so manoevering your motorhome over it to dispose of waste water can be awkward. You can however if you could drain a small amount of wastewater into a container drain at other points. Also being on the lake a pontoon/jetty would be useful, as they charge for launching any kayaks/canoes/boats off the shore, but don't provide any facilities. . They are currently installing some super pitches with waste drainage, water and electric, which should be great once completed. We enjoyed our stay and would be happy to return. If you love the Lake District you will love this site. There is none better in Keswick.

We booked into Keswick club site late February 2018 for three nights in our motorhome but because of the so called "Beast from the East" we were stranded and unable to get back across the Pennines to York, making our stay six nights. I cannot fault the campsite and the staff were absolutely brilliant, working hard to clear the paths around the site and making sure everything was spotlessly clean. The site facilities are excellent with a good TV signal and strong Wi Fi signal. 3 and 4g were also strong (3 network anyway). Keswick town is just a short walk and Booths supermarket very handy The site sits on the edge of the lake with great views down Derwentwater. We only started motorhoming last July and of the 8 or 9 sites we've stayed on so far,Keswick was our favourite by a long way. Looking forward to going back and being able to sit outside and just watch the lake and the scenery. The pitch had electric hook up and hard standing but it looks like the site are working on a few pitches for full hook up including water. The weather this time was atrocious but we wouldn't have missed it for the world. A great place to be stranded,we will be back. One tip,Jaspers cafe in the town is very dog friendly with great food as are a lot of Keswick cafe's.

Weve been many times before and think that this site is better and better every time we visit.

Weve been many times before and think that this site is better and better every time we visit. The fantastic managers have introduced several new initiatives including increasing the amount of hard standing, greatly improving the WiFi coverage and adding superpitches overlooking the lake. They are the most capable and progressive managers the site have ever had.
