A wonderfully secluded campsite hidden in the Welsh hills.

Rhandirmwyn (pronounced ran-dee-mo-n) Club campsite lies just outside the Brecon Beacons National Park. The name means ‘Valley of the minerals’ and is a lead mining area in the Towy Valley.

The campsite is situated in the middle of the valley and the lively River Towy run alongside it. The campsite is spacious and well set out with excellent facilities. Surrounded by hills and trees it’s ideal for families or individuals interested in walking, cycling or just relaxing.

There are many beautiful hill and river walks within easy reach of this campsite. The Cambrian Way passes through the edge of the site. The circular all-ability access trail in Cwmrhaeadr Forest, one-and-a-half miles from the campsite is perfect for cyclists. There are two nice pubs in the village, your reward for completing the steep climb up to them!

Head south from the campsite to the Usk reservoir in the National Park. An eight-mile trail wends its way around the shore. Fishing is available here too. The nearby Glasfyndd Forest also has great walking and cycling tracks.

Llyn Brianne reservoir is also worth a visit. The road around the reservoir has some breathtaking views. Also visit the subterreanean world of the National Showcaves Centre for Wales. As well as the caves you can visit the dinosaur park, shire horse centre and the Iron Age village. The 13th century hillside Carreg Cenne Castle is south of the campsite near the village of Trapp.

Don’t miss a visit to the RSPB Dinas Nature Reserve where you can spot red kites. You can see more red kites as well as ravens and buzzards at Gigrin Farm Bird reserve in the market town of Rhayader.

Unbooked arrival but welcomed which was nice. Very friendly staff. Very clean facilities. Absolutely fantastic site in an especially peaceful very rural area. A drive of about 7 miles from the nearest town to get there but well worth it. There is a shop on site too. Thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you.

Unbooked arrival but lovely happy welcome.

Unbooked arrival but lovely happy welcome. Care taken to pitch us so that our cat would not be troubled by a neighbouring dog - really kind. The site itself was immaculate in every respect. Well worth a longer stay, walks, riverside, rural peace and tranquility. 5 Stars and thanks to the stewards.

We arrived at the site a few hours early but no problem we were greeted by Alan & Julie who enthused about the local area and showed us to the pitch. A fantastic location set in a fairly high sided valley with a babbling river right next to the site made relaxing very easy. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit but with 3 big dogs there was a difficulty in the general area with sheep which meant they were never allowed to roam free except in the campsite dog walking area which is fenced. The site is very well maintained, the grass was well manicured and the shower block was always clean. The notes about the site said excellent facilities but we could see a way to improve by having more than 3 showers for 90 odd pitches and the ladies showers had a problem with water power at peak times.

We have stayed here many times, and will be there twice in 4 weeks this Spring.

We have stayed here many times, and will be there twice in 4 weeks this Spring. The site is just so well kept, clean and obviously very much cared for by Barry and Wendy. Even at a Bank Holiday, when the site was full, it is welcoming, peaceful and not at all noisy. What also struck me this week was that those who stay there on the whole have great respect for the site and other campers, and I think this rubs off from the site managers. They care so much for the site and the local community and that is obvious to us who are lucky enough to stay there. They enjoy a laugh and a joke, but know their limits, and are very respected by the local people. The site is spotless, the facilities cleaned several times a day, and the small but well stocked shop on site has the basics. Even managed to sell us some sun tan lotion this week. A real gem in a most beautiful valley. Walking is just superb with great views. Great bird watching, and we nearly always see Red Kites. The nearby mine site had numerous newts, the local verges abounding with bluebells and wild strawberries, good walking along the river banks. Two local pubs with great food and drink complete a fantastic experience.

“Yet another fabulous weeks holiday at this superb site. Friendly welcome from the wardens who maintain the site to a remarkable standard. The scenery is absolutely stunning and there are some fabulous walks along the river Towy in both directions as well as some more strenuous ones. Can highly recommend this site for anybody who appreciates nature and beautiful scenery. We will definitely be returning.”
