When in York, do as the Romans do! They created the city way back in 72 AD, and the Roman legacy lives on in its historic walled splendour. With Roman, Viking and medieval heritage, York has long been a city of importance and today there is so much to see and do. From the magnificent York Minster and the Yorvik Viking Centre to its fascinating museums and boat trips on the River Ouse, you'll be spoilt for choice. Just a mile from the campsite is the sleepy village of Sheriff Hutton itself, which has its own ancient stories to tell. In addition to a 900-year old church are the ruins of Neville Castle, a medieval fort built in the 14th century which still towers over the village today. Sheriff Hutton is also home to a couple of friendly pubs - perfect for a hearty meal after a day spent pounding the streets of York or exploring the magnificent wild moorlands.

Glamping holidays near York place you in a fantastic location from which to explore the coast and countryside. The wildly beautiful North York Moors are an easy drive away, offering mile upon mile of criss-crossing footpaths and challenging cycle routes - a perfect place to blow the cobwebs away.

An hour's drive east brings you to the classic seaside resort of Scarborough, where soft golden sands and clean shallow shores await. It's a cracking spot for good old-fashioned family fun with sandcastles, candyfloss, amusement arcades and donkey rides. Further north along the coast is the lovely coastal town of Whitby. Facing out over the bay and backed by wild moorland, with lofty castle ruins looming overhead, it's easy to lose a blissful afternoon or more in this charming corner of England.

Once you've had your fill of ice creams and sandcastles, there are plenty of family attractions around Sheriff Hutton including Flamingo Land at Malton and Monk Park Farm near Thirsk.
