Overview

Switch to relaxation mode and steal away to South Devon for a fabulous glamping retreat in the South Hams, just 20 minutes from the coast. It’s every inch an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and glamping in California Cross pitches you right in the heart of the action.

The site itself is quiet and secluded with excellent facilities, and a great pub just over the road. Glampers can make full use of the shower block and washing facilities, whilst your own glamping retreat comes kitted out with furnished bedrooms, a lounge and dining area, a mini kitchen and your own terrace (you just need to pack your own bedding).

In this part of the world, boots are made for walkin’. The famous Dartmoor National Park is right on your doorstep and at nearby Ivybridge, you’ll find the starting point of the original Two Moors Way. This long-distance trail crosses Dartmoor and Exmoor right up to the North Devon coast. Or, point your boots south and follow the Erme-Plym Way from Ivybridge to Wembury.

If you’ve got the kids in tow, take a walk on the wild side at Dartmoor Zoo, Pennywell Farm, or Buckfast Butterfly Farm & Otter Sanctuary. They’re all within half an hour’s drive of California Cross and make great days out for youngsters (and big kids too).

Based near Ivybridge between Plymouth and Paignton, California Cross is a cracking springboard to explore South Devon. If you fancy a classic seaside break, hop in the car and you’ll be at Bigbury-on-Sea in around 20 minutes. It’s the biggest sandy beach in the area and is famous for its sea tractor, which trundles beach-goers between Bigbury and Burgh Island. Other local hotspots include Wembury, Bovisand, Challaborough cove, Mothecombe, and Bantham.

Venture out to bustling Plymouth and visit the National Marine Aquarium, or head over to gorgeous Dartmouth. Follow the local town trail, explore Dartmouth Castle and hop on the ferry to historic Kingswear, a lovely higgledy-piggledy hillside town.

Ready Camp: What facilities are inside the tent?

Our Ready Camp tents comprise of two seperate bedrooms & an open plan living/dining area, it oozes with little bits of camping luxury including a double bed (yes a real bed with a real mattress!) triple bunk bed (double with a single on top) and a single stow away bed.

A kitchen area with a fridge, microwave and hob, along with basic cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery.

There are also lights, a comfy settee and a heater to keep you cosy.

Not forgetting to mention a dining table where you can wine and dine to your hearts content… feel free to bring your table onto your decking and enjoy your grub alfresco style.

And don't worry, although we don't have toilet, shower or dishwashing areas in the tent, you can find these facilities on the campsite.

We’ve even included a torch – for the midnight toilet trips, or just to make funny shadows on the tent!
