Overview

Explore the university city of Cambridge and its surrounding Fenland landscape from here.

South Cambridgeshire is ideal walking and cycling country – a tranquil and rural landscape interdispersed with gentle rolling hills, beech woods and flat fertile land.

The Club’s pretty Cambridge campsite at Great Shelford, offers an ideal base to explore the area. This level campsite, bordered by trees is just four miles south of the cosmopolitan city of Cambridge.

In addition to its famous university the city offers a range of attractions including museums, art venues, restaurants and bars. Discover the city on foot – there are many walking tours on offer – or take your bike and enjoy the many cycle routes around the city. Further afield the Fens are a pleasant place to spend an afternoon in the saddle with its flat terrain and quaint towns and villages.

During the summer months Cambridge hosts a mezzé of al fresco performances of music in the parks and green spaces as part of the annual Summer in the City programme of events. July sees the city come alive as the Folk Festival takes over and in September the city’s Art Picturehouse hosts the Cambridge Film Festival. No visit to city should be without a punt on the river Cam.

North of the campsite historic Ely has a magnificent cathedral or take a boat trip on the River Great Ouse. The bustling riverside towns of St Ives and St Neots are closeby as is the home of British horse racing – Newmarket.

The National Trust’s Wimpole Hall and Anglesey Abbey, the Imperial War Museum and Denny Abbey and Farmland Museum are popular days out from Cambridge campsite.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

A great site for visiting historic Cambridge but very noisy.

A great site for visiting historic Cambridge but very noisy. Constant traffic noise from nearby M11, you are close to Adenbrookes Hospital so regular ambulances with sirens. Not far from mainline railway so regular trains passing by. The site is very well maintained and grass cuttings are collected as they cut so no grass in tent/'van. Access is interesting! Poorly sign posted and down a very narrow lane. I missed the entrance first time and had to drive 1.5 miles to find a side road that I could reverse my twin axle into so that I could turn round and go back. Booking in was efficient as was getting on to the pitch. However, after that we had little or no engagement from the site team, nothing like the friendliness of the Canterbury team. There us lots to do, obviously you have Cambridge with all it's history but nearby Duxford is a must see for those interested in aviation. Wendbury park is well worth a visit with some lovely walks and a visit to Gogs farm shop is amazing. £30 in the deli' in under 10 minutes. There us a nice coffee shop there that is a bit expensive but of such high quality it was worth it. unlike the shop on site where one ice cream costs the same as a pack of 5 in our local co-op. Overall I would say that the site is ok as a base but not ideal if you want to relax and enjoy the sun.

We were impressed with site. Facilities were kept very clean.

We were impressed with site. Facilities were kept very clean. But our overall impression of management team was of extreme helpfulness as we had difficulty in engaging our jockey wheel when trying to hitch up and one of the gentlemen came to our aid and was able to fix it. So great thanks to him.

Lovley site with very clean toilets and brilliant showers. The wardens were very friendly and helpful. Good location for the park and ride or if you prefer to take the local bus into Cambridge. Will definitely return to explore the area further.

An excellent site for exploring Cambridge and the surrounding area.

This review is for Cambridge

An excellent site for exploring Cambridge and the surrounding area. Good, level pitches and an exemplary facilities block. Plenty of information leaflets to help plan activities, but site staff are always willing to help on this. Safe play area for children central to the park. Really enjoyed our stay, and would definitely rebook.
