The surrounding area

The secluded, woodland setting of our Theobalds Park Club campsite belies its location just inside London’s orbital M25 motorway. Although just off the M25 the campsite is in the heart of the Hertfordshire countryside. The nearby Lee Valley Park will appeal to nature lovers, walkers, cyclists and fishermen. While further west woodland, grassland, heath, rivers and ponds make up the vast expanse of Epping Forest, the largest public open space in the London area.

At just 15 miles from the capital this campsite is an excellent base from which to explore London. Catch a train from Waltham Cross to enjoy the city’s fantastic shopping, varied eateries and bars and landmarks such as Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Tower Bridge, Olympic Park and more.

Theobalds Park is a superb site. I'd definitely use this one again for another London trip.

Theobalds Park is a superb site. I'd definitely use this one again for another London trip. Well kept grass & hardstandings, huge facilities block with a fully-equipped laundry room, dishwashing, family room, etc all very spacious and spotlessly clean. There's a kids play area (on bark) and a bit of a shop. Nice staff, really helpful with travel questions and they dont mind if you dither a bit over choice of pitch. Its very countrified and rural, and its easy to forget that you're so close to the M25. I counted 11 rabbits as I walked to the loos! Travel wise, Waltham Cross station is maybe 3 miles, a steady 20 minutes cycling (got it down to 12 minutes!), then Anglia train to Liverpool Street, hop straight onto the Circle line and you're in Kensington ready to hit the Science Museum half an hour later. Public transport is so easy down here! :) Theres no need to bother with tickets, passes or money - just use your normal bank debit card, touch in and out of each station and they work out the fare! On the way cycling back from Waltham Cross, theres a big Lidl if you need bread & milk (what we call a hedgehog diet) ;) After the Science museum Friday and Natural History Saturday, today (Sunday) is a chillout day for me. There are miles & miles of local cycling bridlepaths through beautiful countryside - woods, meadows, lakes... Hamleys toy shop tomorrow! If you fancy a sightseeing break 'down the smoke' I would definitely recommend Theobalds Park! :-) Cheers Phil

Great site located just outside the London Congestion Charge and with easy access to the M25. We stayed here for a three night break when we came down to London for the Rugby League Challenge Cup final, August bank holiday weekend. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff who were ever so helpful in assisting us for the location to the nearest train/tubs stations. We were on a Jumbo grass pitch in the middle of the main field and close to all the amenities. Very nice pub nearby which is a 20 minute walk away. All in all a very nice site and to which we would definitely return if visiting the capital again.
