Overview

Beach and forest – the best of both worlds

Situated in the most southern area of the New Forest, the Holmsley Caravan and Camping Park is ideally situated for your seaside break, being just 10 minutes drive from the unspoilt beach at Barton on Sea. Combining the best of the forest and the Hampshire south coast, this award-winning campsite has acres of woodlands and grassland for kids to explore and is just a short drive from the wonderful beaches of Bournemouth and Christchurch. In the summer months Ranger Activities are available to teach the whole family more about life in the forest, and the New Forest’s famous ponies are regularly seen grazing just outside the campsite. With lots of local attractions and close to picturesque villages and thriving seaside towns, Holmsely is the ideal campsite for people with a range of interests. There is also a takeaway and shop on site offering a good range of groceries for visitors to the campsite. Opening times may vary throughout the season.

Have been to this site for many years.

This review is for Holmsley - New Forest

Have been to this site for many years. It was an exciting place to come to, almost like wild camping. Now it seems over regulated and too expensive for the poor facilities. Off peak, they still insist on siting you rather than letting you choose your own bumpy ‘pitch’. Big field which was great for getting away from the crowds now a rally field. However, nice area for walks or bike rides and only 6-7 miles to Avon beach and Mudeford bay.

Large fairly well kept site in the middle of the forest. Toilets and showers clean. However. We are in a campervan with no toilet facilities. There are 3 toilet blocks. We were told that one was out of service because the boiler was being replaced. We were told to go off and find a pitch. So we parked up a couple of minutes away from a toilet block. 24 hours into our stay, that one was closed as well. So for the whole site there was one block almost 10 minutes walk away! Not good. The other thing is that the site appears to be on the flight path for Ryan air flights into Bournemouth air port. Starting at 6:30! Not the sites fault I know. But just be aware!

I stopped at Homsley with my wife for a couple of nights on our way down to Dorset. We arrived slightly later than planned and it was made immediately obvious that the staff were not happy that we hadn't turn up at the time we had quoted (- not our fault as there was a funny thing called traffic that we couldn't account for!) We were shown to our pitch by someone who gave very unclear instructions and when we asked about where the water points were, just pointed and when ask to clarify just pointed vaguely again. Once they had left we finally found a tap we could connect to (in completely the other direction to where they had pointed!) The pitch was okay - however we found that unless you had a windbreak to guard you, people walked/cycled as close by to your unit as possible. A good plus point was the shop which was adequately filled with all you would need - however the takeaway was disappointing. (Be warned that the pizzas are shop bought and not very appealing.) The walks out into the New Forest were good and we enjoyed the wildlife that was nearby during our stay. A couple of things to note - the laziness of some campers who could not walk from one side of the camp to the other and drove their cars continually was sad to see and created a lot of traffic on site which could have been prevented. We also found that the motorhome service point was located in a strange area. The site had allowed others to camp VERY close to the area making it difficult to use and if you had a long van almost impossible to get anywhere near! If pitches could be marked our better and rules made to be stuck to it would make for a more enjoyable experience.
