Stretch the camping season into winter
The seasons might be changing but the Club has 26 great sites open until the end of the year.
Great news for campers – and especially caravanners and motorhomers – who can continue with much-needed staycation breaks and even celebrate Christmas on a campsite.
What’s more, 14 of these campsites are open all year round. The sites welcoming campers throughout these autumn and winter months stretch throughout the UK, from Scone in Perthshire to Polstead in Suffolk in the east, Canterbury in Kent in the south east to Tavistock in Devon in the south west.
Our Technical Manager Ian Hewlett has compiled five top tips for caravanning and motorhoming as the weather gets colder:
- Checking over your unit is important in any weather but more so when roads are slippery or wet. Check tyre pressures before setting off and for uneven wear or signs of bulging or cracking. Check oil and water levels too.
- Check your leisure battery while in storage and before you head off. And why not make the most of your gas supply for caravans or motorhomes – it packs a lot of energy for its weight, making it ideal for touring in colder months.
- Keep an eye on the forecast and if possible avoid travelling in high winds or heavy rain.
- Avoid pitching under a tree and find shelter such as hedges, walls and other units, which can give protection from the elements.
- You rarely need to insulate your fresh water container in cold weather, but the inlet hose can freeze up. So if a frost is expected, draw off a bottle of water for use inside the van then remove the inlet hose to store in the vehicle overnight. Refit the hose in the morning.
