Do I need a special driving licence to drive a motorhome?
The driving licence regulations have changed since this was written. If you hold a standard car driving licence you can now tow most caravans, unless your licence was issued in Northern Ireland.

A standard B-class åcar licence permits you to drive any vehicle up to a maximum gross weight of 3,500kg if you passed your test after 1 January 1997, which will cover many campervans and motorhomes.
However, if the motorhome is heavier than 3,500kg you’ll need licence category C1 and depending on when you passed your test you may or may not have this on your licence. As you get older you will also need to pass a medical to retain this option.
