The majority of Club Sites reopened in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland on 4 July, followed by most in Wales on 11 July, in line with the government’s steps for easing lockdown.
Club members arrived in their thousands at sites throughout the United Kingdom on Saturday 4 July, excited to be able to enjoy overnight stays in their camping units in the great outdoors again after months of coronavirus lockdown.
As revealed last month, the Club planned to open as many sites as possible with facilities if allowed to do so, while other sites would operate without facilities – that is, toilet and shower blocks.
We’ve plotted this on our illustrated map – 44 sites reopen with toilet and shower facilities this season, while 33 sites without these facilities are suitable for self-sufficient campers only. Those sites opening without toilet and shower blocks still provide electric hook-up, access to fresh water, a place to dispose of toilet waste and washing-up facilities. 26 sites will stay closed for the rest of the season. The Club’s UK Sites booking line has reopened – call 024 7647 5426.
The Club’s operational teams have focused on making reopening as safe as possible for campers and for Holiday Site Teams, and have made a number changes in line with government guidance and from member feedback. Look out for information and signage on our sites, some of which we’ve illustrated here.
The extra measures we’ve put in place include contactless check-in on site, which means that your payment balance is taken automatically from your account on the morning of your arrival date. On arrival at the site, campers should remain inside their vehicles – our Holiday Site Team will be on hand to assist you and show you to your allocated pitch. During your stay, we ask that you don’t invite any day visitors to your pitch, and all of our pitches are at least six metres apart. Members are asked to maintain sensible social distancing from Site Teams and other campers on site.
Those sites that have facilities blocks open will be run at under occupancy, so there’s less demand on those facilities. Also, on sites where facilities blocks are open, we ask that those with their own washing and toilet facilities in their camping unit use them wherever possible, and bring own soap and hand sanitiser to wash hands regularly.
Where facilities are open, onsite teams will conduct two deep cleans and four additional cleans each day, and washing up areas will have extra spacing. For the time being, reception, communal and play areas will remain closed, and we won’t be able to sell gas cylinders.
The Club’s Director General Sabina Voysey said: “We’re over the moon to welcome members back to our Club Sites: we are confident the measures we have put in place will ensure campers and staff stay happy and healthy. With strong bookings already and – fingers crossed – more of the great weather we’ve seen lately, we hope it will be a bumper summer for camping with the Club in the UK, which will help the nation’s economic recovery and do wonders for members’ health and wellbeing.”
