Trailer Tent And Folding Camper Awards

Trailer Tents

Trailer Tent and Folding Camper Owner Satisfaction Survey 2024: background

Trailer tents and folding campers are both wheeled trailers for pulling behind a car or motorbike – a folding camper pitches off-ground while a trailer tent’s main canvas pegs directly into the ground.

In early surveys, we had a very small number of responses from trailer tent buyers and our awards were dominated by folding campers. For our 2023 awards we were pleased to say numbers had risen so we re-introduced an award specifically for trailer tents and we are happy this trend has continued into our 2024 awards.

Best Trailer Tents

Camp-let

Winner: Isabella Camp-let 93%

Highly commended: Trigano 91%

Previous winners
2023 Camp-let

The winner in our 2024 Trailer Tent Owner Satisfaction Awards is Isabella Camp-let with Trigano being highly commended, rankings that reflect last year’s survey results. However, Trigano has closed the gap from a 5 percentage point difference to just 2 this year.

The average price paid for a trailer tent this year remained around £6,500 and in general trailer tent owners were very pleased with their purchases. When asked how satisfied they were overall with how the trailer tent performed on a scale of 1 to 10 from 1 ‘not at all satisfied’ to 10 ‘extremely satisfied’, none of the respondents gave a response of 5 or lower.

2023 Trailer Tent Owner Satisfaction Awards update

Danish brand Camp-let (now part of the Isabella fold) was highly commended in the 2022 combined trailer tent and folding camper awards and took the top spot in the separate trailer tent category, five percentage points ahead of French manufacturer Trigano. Both companies have been making trailer tents for more than half a century.

Best Folding Campers

 OPUS 2024

Winner: OPUS 94%

Highly commended: Pennine 92%

Manufactured in the East of England, OPUS folding campers have once again vied with Pennine for the top spot in our Folding Camper awards, OPUS winning this year by a small margin. It takes the lead in the competition that’s been dominated by these two companies since the Trailer Tent and Folding Camper Award was first made in 2018.

2023 Trailer Tent Owner Satisfaction Awards update

Lancashire-based folding camper manufacturer Pennine Outdoor Leisure takes the crown this year in a tight competition that’s dominated this category since the awards began.

2018-2022 Awards

For the 2022 awards and before, we linked folding campers and trailer tents under a single heading as we had very few responses from trailer tent users.

2022 Folding Camper Owner (including Trailer Tents) Satisfaction Awards update

Folding camper brand Opus was victorious this time with a satisfaction score of 96%. It is good to see a trailer tent manufacturer (Camp-let) back in the running this time. It was highly commended at 92%.

2020 Folding Camper Owner Satisfaction Awards update

Opus and Pennine claimed the top spot with 96%.

Such was the dominance of these two brands – in terms of number of responses as well as satisfaction – we had no highly commended brands this time.

However, are there signs of a comeback for folding campers/trailer tents? With total annual sales typically in the low thousands for new models, it was interesting to note some 36% of our responses were from purchases in 2018 and a further 34% were bought in 2019.

2019 Trailer Tent and Folding Camper Owner Satisfaction Awards update

Folding campers (including trailer tents) is a tiny, yet significant, sector in the whole tent market, hence its inclusion here.

This year’s winner, Opus, scored 93% for overall satisfaction. By far its most popular model was its flagship, the Full Monty.

Last year’s winner, Pennine, scored 90% this time.

Other brands reported on include Cabanon, Camp-let, Conway, Raclet, Sunncamp and Trigano.
