    Top site for beaches

This campsite is just over a mile from the beach and next to Africa Alive wildlife park.

The glorious beaches of the Suffolk coast are just one of the draws for our lovely Kessingland Club campsite which is tucked away behind the former fishing village with which is shares its name.

The campsite is spacious and well presented with level pitches, a family shower room, laundry and disabled facilities as well as a small site shop selling essentials.

The sand/shingle Kessingland Beach, is just a mile and a half from the campsite. This huge expanse of sand and sand hills (seals can be spotted from here) is popular with families. The beach also runs into Benacre nature reserve - famous for bird sightings every spring as migrating birds hit British land fall.

The area around our Kessingland campsite is great for animal lovers – in addition to Benacre you can see 300 species of birds at the RSBP reserve at Minsmere and right next door to the campsite is Africa Alive wildlife park, home to more than 80 species of animals from around Africa. Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens near Great Yarmouth has a tiger compound and tree-top walk to view the animals.

Lowestoft has everything you need for a traditional British seaside holiday from Victorian Seafront Gardens, fountains and two piers, plus Blue Flag award winning beaches. The sandy Lowestoft Beach, North Claremont has two piers and a number of cafes and seafront shops. The vast expanse of sand of the Blue Flag Lowestoft Beach, South Claremont makes it the ideal beach for sunbathing and sandcastles. Beach huts can be hired and there is an area with shops.

Head south to the beautiful seaside resort of Southwold. The town’s Museum and Sailor’s Reading Room provide an insight into the towns maritime past. There’s also a boating lake, Adnam’s Brewery is based in the town and head to the seafront to enjoy the award-winning beach, also famous for its colourful beach huts.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

Please note: There are no grass-only pitches at this campsite so an additional pitch fee applies. There are also wind turbines near the campsite so you may hear some noise from them.

Worth Noting

Site has especially hard ground but is well drained. Please be aware that wind turbines are adjacent to site and you may hear some noise. TV signal is poor. When approaching site from the A12 follow the signs to Africa Alive and turn right into the wildlife park entrance road – the site is located 150m down the shared driveway on the left. Please note that Kessingland Beach is shingle and dogs are not allowed when walking towards Southwold.

We stayed in a Ready Camp at Kessingland and it was absolutely brill. The site is small, but beautifully quiet and is extremely well kept. We had a very warm welcome from the site managers and had a choice of tent. As a young family of 5, we fit perfectly into the tent and as the playground is not far away, we felt we could let the children roam without having to follow them which was nice. The toilet block is cleaned regularly and the showers are a good size. Being a small site, I didnt have to wait to use them at all which was great. The Ready Camp tents back onto the Africa Alive Park which means we heard all the animal noises- the birds are directly behind so we heard those the most and then every now and again the lions would start up- only very brief but amazing to hear! The Africa Alive Park is just a short walk from the campsite and highly recommended, its rare we go to these sorts of places for a full day, but we did here. If you show the ticket seller your campsite booking, youll get unlimited access for the duration of your stay to the park for a small amount extra which is really good value. We booked our tickets online and so were disappointed we didnt know this in advance. The local beaches are lovely (although not Kessingland- its stoney and not particularly pretty either so I wouldnt bother) but we spent a great day at Lowestoft which was surprisingly quiet for the time of year. The beach was clean and the water was warm which was a pleasant surprise. A few reviews have mentioned noise from the wind turbines, which you can hear (sounds like a plane taking off) but you get used to it and it just becomes background noise. Its a very small negative in a massive amount of positives for this site and I really wouldnt let it put you off. We very much enjoyed our stay at Kessingland and hope to return one day.
