The Camping and Caravanning Club announces new Club Chairman

Monday 5th December 2022

Chris Chester has been elected Chairman of The Camping and Caravanning Club by the Club’s National Council at its November 2022 meeting.

Chris, a life-long caravanner who lives in Royton near Oldham, will now chair the Club’s Executive Committee, Management Committee and National Council.

Chris said: “My history of camping with the Club dates back to when I was 12 or 13 when I camped out with Camping Club Youth. I then became a Youth Leader at 18 and have been Vice-Chair on many District Association and Region Committees ever since.

“I’m really looking forward to getting involved with some exciting projects, including working to encourage more people to join the Club and be involved at a voluntary level.

“For me, the Club is about access to camping at all levels – whether it’s social camping at weekend Meets or using our network of Club Sites.”

Chris has replaced Phil Henson who has been Club Chairman since February 2021 and now becomes the Club’s Immediate Past Chairman. Jane Read has been elected as the Club’s new Vice-Chairman and brings experience from roles on the Club’s Management Committee and as Vice-Chairman of the International Committee. She has also served on District Association and Region Committees within the Club. Chris, Phil and Jane make up the Club’s Executive Committee along with Steve Harris, the Honorary Treasurer.

Sabina Voysey, the Club’s Director General, said: “Chris is a long-standing member of the Club and I am very much looking forward to working with him in his new role as our Chairman. I would also like to welcome Jane to the post of Vice-Chairman.

“Both Chris and Jane have a great deal of experience of the Club and our Committees, which will stand them in good stead to carry out their roles as part of the Executive Committee.”

Sabina added: “I would also like to thank Phil for his support and dedication to the role of Chairman over the last two years, exploring and supporting the evolution of the Club.”
