We started walking long distance footpaths together along the 630 miles of the South West Way between Poole in Dorset and Minehead in Somerset, doing it in five annual stages between 1982 and 1986 using B&B accommodation. Our much-loved tabby point Siamese cat, Czar, was looked after by Heather’s parents who moved near Paignton during this period. However, they were then far away from our northern England home to act as cat sitters for future walks so a different solution was required.
