Glorious Gdansk
From its days as the grim industrial heart of Poland’s 1980s uprising against Soviet occupation, the Baltic port city of Gdansk has been cleverly rebuilt and relaunched as a major tourist centre.
Like many Polish cities, Gdansk was severely damaged during the Second World War but now has a carefully restored centre, reflecting its golden age up to the end of the 18th century. Now part of the tri-city conurbation – including neighbouring Sopot and Gdynia – Gdansk has enough attractions to keep you busy for a week.
