The Tomos a Lilford brewery strapline ‘Adventures in Brewing’ seems appropriate as I listen to Rolant Tomos describing how he and his brewing partner Rob Lilford came to choose which seaweed to use in their popular stout, Cwrwgl. He recalled: “We went foraging along the local beach to collect as many different types as we could, then chewed our way through our haul to see which one tasted best.” If you are wondering, dear reader, it was the bladderwrack that made the grade, to save you the trouble of chewing a beach’s worth of seaweed.
