A motorhome of the future
Forward-thinking students at Technical University Eindhoven have teamed up with Thetford to successfully design and manufacture a true-green option for eco-mindful motorhomers.
In September, the group dubbed Solar Team Eindhoven presented its Self-sustaining House on Wheels (SHOW) – a fully solar-powered unit it believes represents a legitimate “motorhome of the future”.
The ground-breaking prototype is named Stella Vita, which translates to “star of life” from Latin; and the students’ primary design goal was to create a motorhome that was driveable and liveable using pure solar energy as its only means of power, and crucially, eliminating any charging function from the grid.
Industry giant Thetford contributed to this ambitious project by providing its expertise across the sector, plus its large range of products for cooking, cooling, and sanitation, some of which were custom-made for this application.
The collaboration has produced a currently one-off motorhome that has everything needed for comfortable touring, with sleeping, sanitation, and cooking taken care of inside the spacious interior.
The concept vehicle’s party piece is the roof’s mechanised expansion system. In seconds the solar panels’ surface area doubles, enabling it to convert more sunlight to energy. You can find out more about the SHOW at solarteameindhoven.nl.
