Arrival Breakdown Cover, developed by the Club and the RAC, has undergone a major overhaul in time for the main camping season with the launch of new, dedicated cover for caravans, motorhomes, campervans and trailers.
The new-look Arrival Breakdown Cover has been two years in the making, and is a step forward from the previous one-size-fits-all offering, which offered cover priced the same regardless of the size or type of leisure vehicle.
“We know just how important holidays are right now and we want to make sure members have the right cover, so nothing gets in their way,” said RAC Partnership Manager Martin Elliott. “Our research found that individual camping unit owners identified strongly with that unit, so we’ve designed Arrival Breakdown Cover around members’ needs, allowing them to choose the level and price of cover that suits them and that’s tailored to their camping unit and the assistance they may need in the event of a breakdown. That’s how we landed on Arrival for Caravans, Arrival for Campervans, Arrival for Motorhomes and Arrival for Trailers.”
Arrival Breakdown Cover offers Club members’ day-to-day cover and most importantly the ability to continue a holiday in the event of a breakdown. Depending on camping unit type, this includes towing your vehicle and your caravan or trailer to your campsite if your vehicle breaks down en route to your holiday destination. What’s more, depending on the level of cover you choose, if the vehicle can’t be repaired while you’re on holiday, the outfit will be recovered to your home, or a hire car with a tow bar will be made available. Plus, there’s no limit on the size or weight of the caravan or motorhome covered, and you can add breakdown cover in Europe for up to 350 days.
Arrival cover now also includes rescue at the roadside and at home as standard, which provides peace of mind that if you’re packed and ready to go on holiday, and your vehicle won’t start, you’ll still be able to get away. The specifics and price of the cover are now tailored to the member’s camping unit and choice of cover.
“We’ve focused on continuing and improving on delivering great service and value for members,” said Martin. “It’s important to us that we provide members with the best cover for their needs, as not all breakdown providers offer the same.”
On each of the four new product types Arrival will continue to offer the choice of personal or vehicle-based cover – the latter covers the member’s camping unit, whoever is driving or towing it. There are no changes to Arrival Breakdown Cover for existing policy holders – members will be contacted at time of renewal.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU BREAK DOWN RAC
Patrol and keen caravanner Ben Quemby, who has attended more than 50 caravan and motorhome incidents, shares his top safety tips:
- In the event of a breakdown, pull over to the left and exit the vehicle from the passenger side where possible – don’t go inside the camping unit
- Find a safe space to stand, 20m further down the road in the direction of travel, such as behind a barrier
- Always carry a hi-vis vest and if you’re touring abroad make sure you have a dedicated kit that meets legal requirements, including items such as a warning triangle
- One of the most common causes of breakdowns is poorly maintained tyres. Check them for cracks, inflation and tread depth and replace them before they are seven years old
- Don’t forget to check the tyre on your spare wheel
- Get the unit serviced regularly, which will cover wheel bearings and brakes, and check your road lights, including towing electrics for trailers
- Think of weight distribution and load the unit sensibly
- Carry a small toolkit and bulb kit with you
