The Stay Home National Camping and Caravanning Week (NCCW) ran from 25-31 May 2020.
The event captured huge interest and attention with its virtual celebration of camping, kicking off with the popular Friendly Club Camp-out.
For NCCW the Club encouraged people to discover or rediscover the joys of camping in their gardens. We teamed up on Bank Holiday Monday 25 May with the Great British Camp-out, which has raised funds by encouraging participants to donate their pitch fees to NHS Charities Together. The amount stood at more than £170,000 when we went to press, and campers took to social media to share snaps of their garden camping set-up.
NCCW is the Club’s annual campaign to showcase the joys of camping in all its forms, and during the week the Club published video advice tips online each day at youtube.com/thefriendlyclub, starring Club President Julia Bradbury and other contributors.
There was lots of downloadable information for anyone pitching a tent, caravan or motorhome in their garden or driveway, including a digital-only Special Edition of this magazine, plus special guides to camping, caravanning and motorhoming, and much more.
For any members who’ve recently discovered, or rediscovered camping in any of its forms, there’s lots of handy advice still online.
The Club also had a number of exciting competitions to win camping kit and accessories, including barbecues, tents, an awning, and even a GoPro action camera. Plus there’s still time to enter.
Sabina Voysey (right) said: “Normally at this time of year we’d encourage everyone to get out there, but this year’s Stay Home NCCW was a hit all over the web. Thank you to everyone who dusted off their tent and pitched at home in their garden or in their lounge, or who slept in their caravan or motorhome on their driveway. It’s great to know the spirit of the Friendly Club is still strong in these trying times.”
