Historic tents join Club archive
The team at Club headquarters were delighted when tent expert and collector Charles ‘Ted’ Alexander came to Greenfields House recently with a remarkable donation for the Club’s archive.
Ted gifted 36 items to the care of the Club archive – in addition to a previous generous donation. The collection is made up of rare and extremely well-preserved tents, including two Bukta miniature tents. Ted said: “Many years ago I acquired two Bukta miniature display tents from one of their agents. They are unique and may be the only ones which survive, since the firm stopped making tents three years ago.”
Another is a , notable partly because of its previous owner. Ted said: “This late 1940s model was once owned by Stephanie Hilhouse, daughter of Stephen Hilhouse – a late president of the Club – bought for her by her father.
“I started camping when I was a young boy, with my father, and my fascination with tents has stayed with me since. While they’ll be of great interest to tent enthusiasts, they’re not something my daughters want to keep hold of, so I’m happy to add them to the archive.”
