The Lakes Distillery, Bassenthwaite
One of my favourite food days out in the Lakes is at the Lakes Distillery. Still very new in distillery terms, it opened in 2014 in an attractive, restored Victorian farm. A key requirement for any whisky distillery is access to an abundant source of pure, quality water. This is perfectly located on the banks of the River Derwent and just moments from the pristine and peaceful Bassenthwaite Lake (in my humble opinion it’s the one with all the beauty and none of the crowds).
