Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) have been a mandatory requirement on all new cars since 2014 and many people, including me, believe all vehicles including trailers should have them.
There are many aftermarket kits available and I have tried quite a few with no major issues. Many styles have external sensors screwed on to the valve and I recently tested one of these, the Fit2Go TPMS system.
A tyre pressure sensor with warning LED light illuminated
No programming is required, making it quick and simple. Just set your tyre pressures at the correct level and the system remembers this pressure when the sensor is screwed on. This has the added advantage that a trailer is automatically detected when it’s hitched, assuming the tyres have these sensors fitted.
The monitoring screen sticks to your windscreen and is solar powered. It will warn if a tyre pressure is high, low or if the temperature is too high – well before you notice anything wrong yourself, giving you time to stop safely and investigate.
Touching the pressure checker on to the sensor gives a reading
Each wheel sensor has an LED lamp that flashes if it is out of the set parameters.
Another advantage of this system is that when you change tyre pressures from low to heavy load the system just recalibrates. The kit can be purchased as four sensors and the head unit kit or you can buy a separate additional pair for your caravan. Fit2Go hasn’t forgotten about checking tyre pressure either as a special near-field-communication pressure checker is just touched on the valve sensor to get an accurate reading and indicates sensor battery life (£34.95).
Road Pro has two offers exclusively for Club members while stocks last:
1) Buy a four-sensor kit and get a tyre pressure checker free, so you pay £89.95 instead of £124.90. If you need to monitor six wheels in all, simply order a pack of two sensors as well.
