Stay one step ahead of the unpredictable British weather this season with Jack Wolfskin’s new waterproof trousers
A good waterproof jacket and sturdy weatherproof boots are probably the items we pay most attention to when kitting ourselves out. However, legwear is equally important in my book so it’s worth investing in a decent pair of winter walking trousers. Jack Wolfskin’s aptly named Rainfall pants are more than adequate for keeping out the cold and wet, and ideal if you prefer to wear just one layer, rather than combining overtrousers with baselayer leggings. These trousers combine a robust organic cotton outer with a snug, soft waterproof and highly-breathable full thermal lining, ensuring a high level of warmth and comfort. The Rainfall is a classically-cut, straight-legged stylish-looking trouser that despite the close cut doesn’t feel restrictive in any way, helped by gently articulated knees. A slightly higher-cut waist at the back minimises the effect of base layer ‘ride-up’, something I appreciate when particularly cold. The soft-to-the-touch material and cosy lining feels great next to the skin and more importantly, warm. There’s no venting with these trousers - not an issue for me but it could be if you run a little on the hot side. If you like pockets, you’ve only three small ones to choose from for stashing your valuables - two side pockets and one zipped side-leg pocket. Overall the Rainfall proved to be a very warm weatherproof trouser. It is light in weight, comfortable to wear, quick drying and stylish to boot. Available in blue or grey.
