Terra Nova Equipment launches new ranges
Tent and outdoor kit manufacturer Terra Nova has unveiled new ranges including lightweight tents for ‘bike-packers’.
The Starlite range of tunnel tents, from one to three berth options, offers a short packed length and compact pack size to appeal to cycle campers. Although cycle-camping is not a new pastime, it’s undergoing renewed popularity under the name bike-packing.
The tents will be available from spring 2017 and cost from a recommended retail price of £400 for the Starlite 1 up to £650 for the three-berth tent.
Terra Nova tents are known for being lightweight and the new range is no different. The Starlite 1 weighs 1.12kg (packed) while the Starlite 2 and Starlite 3 come in at 1.53kg and 2.38kg respectively.
The Starlite 3 also has an extended porch for bike storage, pictured.
A Terra Nova spokesman said: “The poles fold down to just 29cm allowing them to be carried easily on a bike, although the tents are equally suitable for travellers looking to reduce rucksack dimensions.”
Meanwhile the company is also launching the Helm range of spacious, free-standing tents under its Wild Country brand. The three-season tents (pictured top) have an upright design that provides generous head room, and are aimed at both general campers and backpackers. Although free-standing, the four corners still need to be pegged out.
Again the tents are lightweight – the Helm 1 weighs 1.87kg and the Helm 2 is 2.27kg while the Helm 3 hits the scales at 2.8kg. The Helms cost from £150 to £180.
A clever little feature of the range is an auto-lock tensioner that allows the flysheet hem to be easily adjusted when pegged out courtesy of a quick pull or release mechanism.
