The Whistling Pig pub on our Windermere Club Site in the Lake District has officially reopened after being closed for more than two years.
In partnership with Northern Monkey Brew Co, it has been completely refurbished and is now serving an exciting new drinks menu.
Northern Monkey, run by Ryan Bailey and Kevin Barber, have been brewing award-winning craft beer since 2015, and have established pubs in Bolton and Bowness. The Whistling Pig now serves Northern Monkey’s real ale and craft beers, including Film Club (a popcorn stout) and Boats N’ Hose (a citra pale ale) – the latter named after Ryan’s time living on a boat and the pair’s ongoing work as fire fighters.
New partners Ryan Bailey and Kevin Barber will make the most of their brewing and pub managing experience
The pub’s overhaul mixes rustic and modern decor, but retains many of the original features, including a brick fireplace. There’s also a large beer garden with cushioned seats and stools.
Windermere Club Site Manager Karen Gulvin, who started back on site in November, said: “It’s the heart of the site… something everybody has asked for.” Indeed, the opening night in July, which included live music from local artist Bailey Moore, was packed out.
Feedback from campers since the pub reopened has been glowing, according to bar manager Marcus Brizio, with campers telling him: “It’s one of the nicest campsite pubs they’ve ever seen, and Boats N’ Hose has been really popular amongst campers.”
The Club’s Director of Marketing & Insight Nicola Simpson said: “Windermere is pretty unique on our network for having its own pub on site. It’s always been a big draw for campers, and in its fabulous new format hopefully even more members will be encourage to book a pitch and enjoy a pint.”
The modern look received a good reception at the opening
Expect more live music in the coming months
