Stand-up comedy pulls into Wales in a caravan
Crowds at the annual Machynlleth Comedy Festival from 1-3 May will be treated to a novel spectacle as star comedians take to the stage – in a caravan.
Now in its sixth year, the Machynlleth Comedy Festival in mid Wales will once again host a variety of entertainers across the board in theatre, music, cabaret and comedy, to kick off the first bank holiday weekend in May.
Laughs will be provided by festival regulars including Stewart Lee, Josh Widdicombe and Josie Long, each bringing their unique brand of humour to the event. A select audience of just 20 people will be able to see the gig staged in a caravan holiday home, held at Machynlleth’s award-winning caravan dealership, Salop Leisure, on Sunday evening, 3 May.
The festival is gaining a reputation as an event with a few surprises, having held a number of special gigs in unusual and quirky places in previous years, from a garden shed to King Arthur’s Labyrinth at Corris.
The festival’s Operations Manager Steve Pickup said: “A caravan holiday home seems tailor-made for a gig. There will be 20 tickets available for the show and the audience will be perched around the lounge area. I don’t know if a comedy show has ever been held in caravan before but it’s certainly a first for the festival.”
This unusual choice of venue is also a great way of introducing people to caravans, as Salop Leisure Manager, Paul Argyl, explained: “Hopefully the show will encourage members of the audience and perhaps the comedians to buy one. We’re really looking forward to the show and the festival.”
In the meantime, get out and explore Wales with the Club Sites at Bala, Cardigan Bay, Llanystumdwy, St David’s and Rhandirmwyn – and Camping in the Forest’s site at Beddgelert.
