Portree Harbour

1. Enjoy the town

Portree itself has a beautiful, sheltered harbour surrounded by cliffs which makes for many picture-perfect moments. The most photographed sight in Portree is the row of brightly painted houses, an unmissable sight. Cafes, shops and seafood restaurants are in good supply, making days spent meandering through the streets a joy. 

2. Hike the Storr trail 

Arguably the most iconic sight on Skye is The Old Man of Storr. You can see the famous basalt rock from viewing points along the A855, but the best views can be found while hiking. The hike uses the same path there and back and takes up to 2 hours. 

3. Visit Neist Point

Another dramatic view can be found on the most westerly point of the island, Neist Point, featuring the famous lighthouse. It’s just over a 2km walk from the car park to the lighthouse and worthwhile for photography and wildlife lovers. 

4. Take a boat trip 

From Portree harbour take one of the numerous boat trips to view the island from the water. Look our for seals, otters and seabirds during your ride.  

5. Explore an ancient Scottish castle 

Dunvegan Castle is said to be the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland. Open daily, you can visit the castle and gardens which has been the ancestral home of the Chiefs of clan MacLeod for 800 years.
