    Set in the gorgeous scenery of the Scottish Lowlands, Moffat Club Site is ideal as a stopover on longer trips and also as a great destination in its own right. Located on the edge of the Victorian market town of Moffat, this site is close to great walking, lovely independent eateries, and some of Scotland’s most underrated natural beauty.

     

    Ample attractions

    This open campsite has grass and hardstanding pitches for all unit types and benefits from modern facilities such as an amenities block, motorhome service point, laundry area, and designated dog walk. A five-minute walk puts you in the heart of Moffat, where you’ll find a museum, the famous statue of Colvin Ram, a pretty church, and the world’s narrowest hotel – the Star.

     

    Waterfall wonder

    If you do stay here for a few nights, take the short drive over to Grey Mare’s Tail waterfall. From here you can take a reasonably strenuous hike up to the stunning Loch Skeen and get unrivalled views down into the glacial valley below. Other impressive places to visit in the area include the Devil’s Beef Tub, Drumlanrig Castle, Morton Castle, and Lochmaben Castle.

    Grey Mare's Tail Nature Reserve

    Immortalised in Sir Walter Scott’s Marmion, Grey Mare’s Tail is one of Britain’s highest waterfalls plunging over 60m from Loch Skeen. Keep an eye out for ospreys, ring ouzels, feral goats and peregrine falcons.

    New Lanark World Heritage Site

    Sat beside the River Clyde, New Lanark is a picturesque, 18th century mill village that was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2001. Wander around the Visitor Centre and uncover the fascinating history of the village and its people.

    Dumfries Ice Bowl

    Strap on some ice-skates and take to the rink at Dumfries Ice Bowl. Whether you’re a seasoned skater or a novice, you can skate around the rink and also have a go at curling.

    Caerlaverock Castle

    Situated just south of Dumfries, Caerlaverock Castle is an isolated fort built upon the site of Roman and Celtic fortifications. The moated castle overlooks the Solway Firth.

    St Mary's Loch

    A peaceful and picturesque loch lying in the heart of the Scottish Borders. Follow part of the Southern Upland Way as it passes the southwest end of the loch and along the shore to Dryhope Bridge, enjoying lovely views over the loch.

    Devil's Beef Tub

    This deep, oddly named hollow is formed by the convergence of four hills, with the Annan River flowing through its valleys. Enjoy a superb high-level circular walk along varied terrain.

    Drumlanrig Castle

    Delve deep into Scotland’s history at Drumlanrig. Explore the castle’s 120 rooms, 17 turrets and four towers, browse its fine art collection and tapestries, and see its grand reception rooms and magnificent staircases.
