    Top site for fishing

A rural campsite near the city of the Norfolk Broads.

A city campsite with a rural feel describes our Norwich Club campsite. It commands a beautiful spot next to a river with walks and fishing along the banks. Its back-to-nature feel is enhanced by a small holding with chickens and geese right next door.

It’s a fairly secluded and quiet campsite and well laid out with 50 grass pitches and well maintained facilities.

This campsite is in easy reach of the city of Norwich by bike, a lovely walk along the old railway line or by bus which stops a quarter of a mile from the site. Norwich is famed for its castle and cathedral and it has more medieval churches than any other city in Western Europe. Four large malls will satisfy the fussiest shopper and there are numerous places to eat and drink.

There are walking and cycling opportunities in Whitlingham Country Park, one-and-a-half miles from the campsite. And, as well as being a haven for wildlife, there’s also a watersports centre offering windsurfing, sailing and kayaking.

The Norfolk Broads, Britain’s largest protected wetland, is within easy reach of the campsite and is home to some of the country’s rarest plants and wildlife.

Worth Noting

Access to riverbank fishing available from 15th June to site closing date. The river can get very weedy in summer months. Site is close to the mainline railway so there may be some train noise.

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available. Prices.

Eat Local

There is a farmers’ market in Gentlemans Walk in Norwich city centre on the first and third Sundays of the month.

We usually stay on smaller CL sites, but could not find any near Norwich.

We usually stay on smaller CL sites, but could not find any near Norwich. The 2 night stay was not preplanned, but as we had attended a 3 day trade event near by, I thought it would be an opportunity to have a couple of days in the lovely city of Norwich and also Cromer. There were no pitches with Electric points on the first night, but there was one available on the second night, but we had not brought our Electric cable with us as we use a Generator at the trade event with a different cable. I was surprised to find that there was a 10 charge plus a 10 deposit for just one night for the cable which seems very expensive for an old well use cable plus 4.25 for the hook up. However, as other people have said, the Warden assistant WAS very friendly and helpful and the facilities were very clean. Also the site is very close to the city and in a quiet area. Considering how many units are on the site and the income generated from so many people, you would think that the Camping Caravan Club could well afford to upgrade the site and build a lot more showers and toilets. In future we will always choose the smaller Cl sites with better facilities and make sure we always carry our own electric hook up cable.

I will caveat my review by saying that we stayed over August Bank Holiday weekend so we expected it to be busy. Very friendly welcome on arrival and shown to our pitch. Facilities are clean and functional and despite the campsite being full I personally had no problem getting a loo or shower when needed. On the day we arrived the gents loos were out of action, which wasn't mentioned on arrival therefore we did not know how long they would be closed, especially as festival style portaloos had been brought in, but they were open the next day so no issue. Campsite is small and they pack people in. Location is convenient for Norwich and the coast (it is on the ring road and just off the bypass) but also has road and train noise which didn't bother us but might bother some.

This site is particularly convenient for visiting Norwich city.

This review is for Norwich

This site is particularly convenient for visiting Norwich city. A short cycle ride into the city. But this site is very outdated. The toilet block is very small, old fashioned and not very nice at all. The sinks for washing up are so low they are only fit for 4 foot high people, we had terrible back ache after washing up. There are no privacy basins in the ladies toilet, and one of the showers is very small. The other is larger as it is the disabled one. No family room on site either. The noise from the roads certainly got us up early every day, although we didnt mind the train noise. The wifi on site was appalling and didnt work for the majority of our time spent on site.

Small site, which suited us fine.

Small site, which suited us fine. Strangely peaceful, even though there is a railway line either side of the site, and you can hear the traffic noise from the motorway in the distance, but none of it intrusive or any problem to us. Facilities very basic but adequate - we're camping! Great location, just a stone's throw from Norwich City centre, 30 mins walk, or about 10 in car, there is also a regular bus service not too far away from the site. We went by car and parked easily enough above John Lewis. Not geared up for kids particularly, no play area, etc. but we had a family opposite us and their kids were having a whale of a time on their bikes round and about (but causing no disruption we hasten to add!) One point - Wifi. It is 10 per week OR 3.5gb, whichever runs out first. If you are downloading or watching stuff (as my 15 year old daughter was) the 10 is not going to last you a week - think she managed 3 days! Just be aware of this. All in all, lovely site, although very basic, but what do you want when camping? lovely people, both management and fellow campers, really enjoyed it, will definitely be back.
