Ideal site for exploring Teesdale & the Yorkshire Dales and outdoor pusuits.

If you’re looking for peace and tranquillity, a rural location with plenty of walking and cycling opportunities our Barnard Castle Club campsite is for you.

Located on the north eastern edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, handy for the attractions of Teesdale and within walking distance of Barnard Castle or Barney as it is known locally, the tree-lined campsite is the perfect place to relax and unwind.

This pretty tree-lined campsite has 90 pitches. The camping field is level and has a well placed modern facilities block offering showers/toilets, a laundry, disabled facilities, a parent and child room and a dish washing area.

There are plenty of walks direct from the site and an excellent dog walk for those who don’t want to venture too far. Children are catered for with a play area and the visiting fish and chip van comes highly recommended.

There’s fishing at Balderhead and Hury reservoirs to the west of the site.

For days out visit the Bowes Museum, Bolton Castle, the Wensleydale Creamery Visitor Centre, the Dales Countryside Museum and England’s highest unbroken waterfall, High Force.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

I stayed here last year and it looks just as welcoming as last year. It is kept tidy by the polite staff and a short trip to town or the other way to a local Pub for some fine food. See you next year

This is one of our favorite sites The weather was wonderful, the site well maintained The managers where friendly, with a good sense of humor, so good banter was had , especially over the issue of the 5 MPH limit . The walk to Barnard Castle is worth the effort and, with out doubt we will be visiting this site again . It is hard to find fault with this site, The only suggestion i would have, is get ride of the soap try in the shower and replace with something shower gel and shampoo etc can be placed in for convenience, rather then having to use the stool. So a five star Well done to all the mangers

I have used this site for approx 10 years and always found the various staff very friendly and helpful, the site is well maintained and clean. On arrival we received a very warm welcome from Deb and given a choice of pitches by Keith who asked if I needed any help positioning the caravan, I said we could manage ourselves. Later when walking my dog I found the gate from the top field to the bridle path overgrown with nettles and thistles and had a job to get through (previously in May this was not a problem as growth was short) so I trampled them back with my foot. On mentioning this to the warden he said I was the only one that had complained and anyway no-one uses the gate. I said I used the gate and other people probably didn't use it as they could not get through. (I noticed quite a few others using it after I had flattened down the nettles). He made some comment about not cutting them because butterflies use them. I was not happy with his attitude. Next day I saw the lady warden and told her I had taken photos of the overgrown path and she said why don't you just walk your dog up and down the site so I said I had used this circular walk for years and did not see why I could not use it any longer. Her attitude not good either she just repeated why don't you walk your dog up and down then walked off. So not the nicest time I have spent at Barnard Castle it won't bother you if you don't have a dog. But it is still a lovely site to visit.
