Ideal site for exploring Teesdale & the Yorkshire Dales and outdoor pusuits.

If you’re looking for peace and tranquillity, a rural location with plenty of walking and cycling opportunities our Barnard Castle Club campsite is for you.

Located on the north eastern edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, handy for the attractions of Teesdale and within walking distance of Barnard Castle or Barney as it is known locally, the tree-lined campsite is the perfect place to relax and unwind.

This pretty tree-lined campsite has 90 pitches. The camping field is level and has a well placed modern facilities block offering showers/toilets, a laundry, disabled facilities, a parent and child room and a dish washing area.

There are plenty of walks direct from the site and an excellent dog walk for those who don’t want to venture too far. Children are catered for with a play area and the visiting fish and chip van comes highly recommended.

There’s fishing at Balderhead and Hury reservoirs to the west of the site.

For days out visit the Bowes Museum, Bolton Castle, the Wensleydale Creamery Visitor Centre, the Dales Countryside Museum and England’s highest unbroken waterfall, High Force.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

Having found Barnard for the first time, we will certainly be back. Spotless and immaculate campsite with loads to do and see in the surrounding area. Barnard Castle itself being a great little town with a good diversity and, it seems, a lot of importance placed on local produce for the local market. Seems to sit nicely as a link between our exploring of North Yorkshire and the Hadrians Wall area we love so much.

Very welcoming and helpful site staff. Pleasant walk through woodland to Barnard Castle - around 40 minutes. Bowes museum worth visiting; very good farmers market in town on first Saturday of each month. Excellent fish & chips from chippie van which visits on Weds & Fri evenings. Showers & toilets always clean & warm. Happy to come here again.

I enjoyed a very peaceful three-night stay on the site, spending a day in Tessdale, and another in nearby Barnard Castle, Reeth and the northern Yorkshire Dales. The wardens were most helpful and welcoming. The facilities were immaculate and the site generally, very well cared for. My only, very small, criticism concerns the visiting mobile chippy: I was looking forward all of Wednesday to having a portion of chips for my supper. Sadly, as a vegetarian, I couldn't take advantage of this useful service as the proprietors fry traditionally in beef dripping. The disappointment in no way spoiled my holiday. I would happily visit the site again.
