A wonderfully secluded campsite hidden in the Welsh hills.

Rhandirmwyn (pronounced ran-dee-mo-n) Club campsite lies just outside the Brecon Beacons National Park. The name means ‘Valley of the minerals’ and is a lead mining area in the Towy Valley.

The campsite is situated in the middle of the valley and the lively River Towy run alongside it. The campsite is spacious and well set out with excellent facilities. Surrounded by hills and trees it’s ideal for families or individuals interested in walking, cycling or just relaxing.

There are many beautiful hill and river walks within easy reach of this campsite. The Cambrian Way passes through the edge of the site. The circular all-ability access trail in Cwmrhaeadr Forest, one-and-a-half miles from the campsite is perfect for cyclists. There are two nice pubs in the village, your reward for completing the steep climb up to them!

Head south from the campsite to the Usk reservoir in the National Park. An eight-mile trail wends its way around the shore. Fishing is available here too. The nearby Glasfyndd Forest also has great walking and cycling tracks.

Llyn Brianne reservoir is also worth a visit. The road around the reservoir has some breathtaking views. Also visit the subterreanean world of the National Showcaves Centre for Wales. As well as the caves you can visit the dinosaur park, shire horse centre and the Iron Age village. The 13th century hillside Carreg Cenne Castle is south of the campsite near the village of Trapp.

Don’t miss a visit to the RSPB Dinas Nature Reserve where you can spot red kites. You can see more red kites as well as ravens and buzzards at Gigrin Farm Bird reserve in the market town of Rhayader.

We arrived to a warm and friendly welcome.

This review is for Rhandirmwyn

We arrived to a warm and friendly welcome. We were shown to our pitch and given a hand to manoeuvre the caravan into position. It was a nice break to have no mobile signal, and lots of walks in the gorgeous countryside. The local pub does great food and is dog friendly, but book in advance as it is very popular. The showers were lovely and hot and the toilet block was well looked after. We had a great holiday.

We have just returned from having a week's break at this wonderful and tranquil site.

We have just returned from having a week's break at this wonderful and tranquil site. Barry and Wendy who run the site were very helpful and pleasant and nothing was too much trouble, The site facilities were spotless. The site shop keeps the basics, such as bread, milk etc. There are lots of walks within easy access from the site and two great pubs, The Royal Oak which is just a short walk up the hill from the site, which does great food and also hosts the village shop and the The Towey Bridge Inn which is approx. a mile walk from the site which is also superb. It was fantastic not having any phone signal which was a really nice throwback to pre mobile days. Did not miss that one bit. There is a good children's playground which our two girls made the most off in between the rain showers. All in all we can recommend this site and hopefully will be back next time we are in the area.

Weather was not brilliant but having done a lot of hillwalking in Wales, I know a bit about that. The crew running this site were great, friendly and kept everything so clean it was a pleasure to visit. We managed a 3 and 6 mile walk between the storms and just enjoyed the peace and tranquillity. We will be back.

Second time at this site and we will keep returning.

This review is for Rhandirmwyn

Second time at this site and we will keep returning. The managers are really friendly and work really hard to keep everything clean and tidy. The only phone signal we found anywhere in the area is at the top of the hill overlooking the site but there is site wifi if you need to keep in touch. The local pubs are both good and serve food. Lots to see and explore in the area if you just want to enjoy being outdoors, there is a forest and waterfall, reservoir, RSPB reserve and the river itself.

“Yet another fabulous weeks holiday at this superb site. Friendly welcome from the wardens who maintain the site to a remarkable standard. The scenery is absolutely stunning and there are some fabulous walks along the river Towy in both directions as well as some more strenuous ones. Can highly recommend this site for anybody who appreciates nature and beautiful scenery. We will definitely be returning.”
