Near the South Devon Heritage Coast - sandy beaches and activity or peace and tranquility. The choice is yours.

You’ll find our California Cross Club campsite in South Hams, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Off the beaten track and surrounded by rolling countryside, the campsite is nestled between the sandy beaches of South Devon’s Heritage coast and the dramatic landscape of the Dartmoor National Park.

Peace and tranquillity is what you’ll find here, along with a mix of level and sloping pitches and a good range of on-site facilities. The California Inn and a shop, both next door to the campsite serve and sell locally produced food.

Nearby Modbury and Ivybridge offer a range of shops and places to eat. The latter will also appeal to walkers. The Two Moors Way starts here, traversing the National Park on its way to Lynmouth on the north Devon coast. Heading south the Erme-Plym Way links Ivybridge to Wembury. The beach here is known for its surfing and rock pooling.

Bigbury on Sea boasts the biggest sandy beach in south Devon. Catch the sea tractor from here to pretty Burgh Island. For windsurfing, canoeing and coastal walks go to nearby Wonwell beach. Mothecombe and Coastguards beaches are also not to be missed.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

Worth Noting

Some pitches are sloping and chocks may be needed. Access to the campsite is along narrow country lanes with passing places. There is no dog walk on-site. TV reception can be poor in some areas.

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available. Prices.

Eat Local

The California Inn and a shop, both next to site, serve and sell locally-produced food and drink. Farm shop 4 miles away has local organic meat and vegetables, and a Farmers’ Market visits Totnes, Dartmouth, Ivybridge and Kingsbridge every month.

The site is situated at a cross roads in rural countryside. A pub petrol station and shop are within a short stroll all giving excellent service. Walking, cycling, swimming and running are all possible whilst the local towns are all within easy distance each with its own character. Seaside venues with a host of beaches all giving wonderful views of the local coast line. Thanks to the onsite team for making our stay so enjoyable.

We were directed to California Cross by the Tavistock site as their hard standing was not suitable for our tent. Upon our arrival California Cross was very welcoming, very pretty and the wardens were extremely friendly. We were given an option of hardstandings, even advising the warden on hard standing material. Shower block and toilets are dated compared to some of the other C&CC sites we have been to, but are spotlessly clean and very acceptable. Pub just up the road is also lovely. All in all, a lovely site.

Just joined CCC club as I'm new to motorhoming so thought I'd try a local campsite. Some narrow roads to get there but upon arrival a warm welcome by reception staff Jenny, Keith and Lyndon. They explained in detail the campsite, provided documentation and booked me in. I was taken outside to be shown around and offered my pitch as it was fairly empty I could choose. I stayed using EHU even though I have solar power. The campsite is very well kept and based on a hill so slopes down to hard standing pitches. I checked out the toilet and shower facilities which are clean, however I would have expected more modern shower cubicles, taps and shower heads were old. Toilets cubicles are in need of updating and the heating "bars" are not ideal or suitable for so a large high ceiling which also could do with a clean "spiders" everywhere. I did use the showers during my stay and found low pressure, dodgy taps mixing water and dirty shower heads.
