St Mary's Loch

1. Visit the Moffat Toffee Shop

Take a trip down memory lane as you enter the Moffat Toffee Shop and find sweets new and old lining the walls. You can’t visit Moffat without saying you’ve tried some Moffat Toffee, so choose from flavours like Rhubarb and Custard or Tutti Frutti and get your sugar fix!

2. Hike a section of the Southern Upland Way

While the long-distance walking route doesn’t officially go through Moffat, you can pick it up in nearby Beattock, around half a mile away from the town.

3. See Grey Mare’s Tail

Grey Mare’s Tail is one of the highest waterfalls in the UK, plunging 60m into the Moffat Water Valley. Choose to see the waterfall from the bottom or climb the steep slopes to see the source, Loch Skeen.

4. Explore the New Lanark World Heritage Site

Sitting along the picture perfect River Clyde, New Lanark is an 18th century Mill Village with an incredible history to discover.

5. Step back into the past at Caerlaverock Castle

6. Walk around the Devil’s Beef Tub

The Devil’s Beef Tub is a deep and dramatic hollow in the hills of Moffat. The picture-perfect area is some of the best hillwalking around, so don your walking boots and pack your lunch to spend the day exploring.

7. Take in the views at St Mary’s Loch

St Mary’s Loch is the largest in the Scottish Borders and sits between Moffat and Selkirk. The area is known for its picturesque views and is the perfect place for a day of walking or cycling.

8. Soak up some culture at Drumlanrig Castle

The beautiful palace that is Drumlanrig Castle has something for everyone to enjoy. Beautiful Victorian Gardens, a woodland adventure playground and the grand interior of the castle are just a few highlights.
