As part of its 125th anniversary celebrations, The Camping and Caravanning Club is inviting campers to share their camping pledges, including what the incredible outdoors has taught them and what they would tell campers of the future.

The most inspiring pledges will be included in a time capsule, which will be buried on Tuesday 15th September during a celebration event at Clent Hills Club Site in Worcestershire.

Clent Hills was selected as its also celebrating a special anniversary – its 90th – and was first opened as the Holding Memorial Site, named after the Club’s founder Thomas Hiram Holding.

Sabina Voysey, the Club’s Director General, said: “A time capsule is a wonderful way to mark our anniversary year, and it feels like a nostalgic way to keep stories safe. It’s incredible to think our traditions will be passed on to future generations, to be rediscovered at some point in the future, when the time is right.”

Alongside the pledges, the time capsule will also include mementos from the Club’s anniversary year, such as a commemorative pennon, a special edition of its popular campsite guide, SiteSeeker and Club magazine, Camping & Caravanning.

The celebration event will be fronted by some of the Club’s key leaders of today, including Club President Hamza Yassin. A prize draw has also been launched to give Club members a chance to win tickets and join in the party. For more information visit: www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/125.

The Club at 125: moments that made us

1901: The Club was founded by Thomas Hiram Holding, who was considered to be the “father” of lightweight camping. Not only did Thomas enjoy camping, but he was also a keen cyclist, so from this arose ‘The Association of Cycle Campers’.

1913: The Club's first permanent Club Site, available for members to book, opened at Walton-on-Thames. The Club Site remains open today.

1957: The Club was recognised as an ‘Assisting Organisation’ when the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme was founded.

1983: Due to the evolution of caravans, the Club aimed to be more inclusive and changed its name to ‘The Camping and Caravanning Club Ltd’.

1990: The Club's head office moved from London to Westwood Business Park in Coventry.

2001: The Club launched National Camping Week (now known as National Camping and Caravanning Week) to inspire the camper in everyone.

2023: Wildlife cameraman, author and TV presenter Hamza Yassin became the 12th Club President.
