UK Roadtrips

One of the UK’s biggest camping clubs has revealed its recommendations for the best UK road trips for 2026, taking in some of the country’s most stunning spots.

With concerns about the increasing cost of holidaying abroad, staycations are in the spotlight, with UK holidaymakers looking to escape airport queues and enjoy greater flexibility when it comes to travel.

From Bridgerton-esque country piles through to stunning landscapes, the trips take in cultural sights and breathtaking natural wonders. Each route can be completed comfortably by car, caravan or motorhome.

The top road trips include,

The Northumberland 250

A 250-mile route which starts in Corbridge before heading north through the towns of Alnwick and Bamburgh. The route then heads inland through the Northumberland National Park and International Dark Sky Park in the heart of the Kielder Forest.

The Cambrian Way

A 185-mile route which starts in Eryri National Park and loops south through the spine of Wales, taking in locations including the Elan Valley and Bannau Brycheinog (Brecon Beacons) National Park.

To explore Wales campsites visit www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/campsites/uk/wales/.

The Cotswolds Romantic Road

The route covers approximately 150 miles. Spend two days completing the full circuit, which takes in locations including Sudeley Castle and Snowshill Manor.

The Ultimate Causeway Coast road trip

A 115-mile adventure which stretches from Belfast to Derry and takes in sites including the Giant’s Causeway and Rathlin Island.

Campers can enjoy grass pitches from £12.50 per pitch, per night at more than 50 Club Sites this summer. Use the code 125GRASS when booking.

Itineraries have been developed based on their comfort and suitability for people travelling by motorhome or towing a caravan. Campers can space out or break up trips by using the Club’s Service Stop-off facility - for £7.65 a unit, members can use on-site facilities without a booking. This includes access to motorhome service points, water and power, plus on-site showers and laundry facilities (where available). This is useful for campers who are following a loose itinerary and don’t want to be tied to specific campsites overnight.

The Club also has a list of recommended hire companies and can connect campers with over 100 independent rental companies, offering a vast selection of campervans and motorhomes. Many of these offer motorhome hire from just £170 a night this summer.

Madeleine Birch, the Club’s PR and Events Manager, said: “The UK has countless amazing locations waiting to be ticked off your list. However you like to camp, make a road trip part of your plans this season.”

2. For more information about the Club’s £12.50 pitch night offer visit www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/campsites/offers/125grass/.

3. Wild camping is illegal in most England, Wales and Northern Ireland, with the exception of Dartmoor commons, in Dartmoor National Park. There are campsites dotted along the route of each of the Club’s recommended road trips, with essential facilities.
