Visitor Levy
Terms and Conditions
Definition of Levy
“A visitor levy is an additional charge collected by The Club for bookings made on UK Club Sites or Meets and Temporary Holiday Sites as required by the local authority to support local tourism and infrastructure services.”
Subject to the implementation by individual local authorities, the visitor levy is a legal requirement of ‘Accommodation Providers’ (The Club) and must be collected for all overnight stays.
Visitor Levy Charge
- A visitor levy (tourist tax) may apply to overnight stays where required by the local authority.
- The levy is calculated as either a percentage rate, per person per night for adults over the age of 18 years, or a flat rate fee which is added to the booking total.
- The ‘Accommodation Provider’ acts as the collector of the levy on behalf of the local authority. Where a UK Club Site, Meet or Temporary Holiday Site is in an area where a visitor levy is applicable, the Club will act as the collector to the local authority. As Certificated Sites are independently owned businesses, they are responsible for managing, collecting and paying any applicable visitor levies to the local authority.
Visitor Levy Charges
Visitor levies are calculated and disclosed at the time of booking. Booking prices may be:
- inclusive of the visitor levy, or
- exclusive of the levy, in which case the levy will be shown as a separate charge on booking confirmations.
Scotland:
All local authorities in Scotland have the power to introduce a visitor levy on overnight accommodation, and if applied, each percentage rate and date of implementation is determined by the individual local authority. Please check the relevant council website for the area you are staying in for the most up-to-date position.
Please note that bookings for Seasonal pitches, and Caravan Holiday Homes that are situated on our Sites but privately owned are currently exempt from visitor levies in Scotland.
Wales:
All local authorities in Wales have the power to introduce a visitor levy, and if implemented, the following national rates are applied on overnight stays:-
- Standard rate: £1.30 per person per night (£1.56 incl VAT)
- Lower rate for campsites or hostels: 75p per person per night (90p incl VAT) Please check the relevant council website for the area you are staying in for the most up to date position.
If guests or nights are added to an existing booking, additional visitor levy charges will apply for the extra visitors or nights.
When is a Levy Collected
Any appropriate levies will either be collected at point of booking, or via auto-balance collect, which is usually taken on the day of arrival. Any visitor levies are shown as a separate levy charge on booking confirmations.
Cancellation and No-Show Policy
Visitor levy charges may be:
- refunded if the booking is cancelled according to the Club’s cancellation policy, or
- not charged for cancelled or no-show stays where the stay does not occur.
In these circumstances, a refund will automatically be issued to the original debit/credit card used to make payment.
Once Visitor Levy funds have been formally remitted by the Club to the local authority, the responsibility for requesting a refund from the local authority rests with you as the customer.
Use of Funds
All visitor levy funds collected from Camping and Caravanning Club bookings are remitted to the appropriate local authority in accordance with their guidelines.
Exemptions
All guests are required to pay the applicable visitor levy at the time of booking, or on auto-balance collect, as specified in these booking conditions.
Where a customer believes they are entitled to an exemption or reduction under local authority rules, the levy must still be paid in full to The Camping and Caravanning Club when the customer is staying on a UK Club Site, Meet or Temporary Holiday Site. It is the customer’s responsibility to apply directly to the relevant local authority for any refund or reimbursement to which they believe they are entitled.
The campsite is not responsible for assessing eligibility for exemptions, processing exemption claims, or issuing refunds related to the visitor levy, unless explicitly required by law.
By confirming a booking, customers acknowledge and agree to this condition.
Legal Compliance
By completing a booking with us, you agree to pay the visitor levy as required and accept these terms.
Customers making an ‘Individual’ or ‘Group’ booking must pay appropriate levies and provide accurate information regarding:
- number of persons staying
- number of nights staying
- ages of guests (for exemption eligibility)
The Camping and Caravanning Club is required to keep booking records to calculate levies owed.
Customers agree that an associated visitor levy is a statutory charge required by law, and failure to pay may result in:
- refusal of accommodation
- cancellation of the booking
All other monies are subject to the Club's booking terms and conditions.
Changes to Levy or Terms
These terms may be updated from time to time to comply with changes in legislation or local authority requirements. Updated terms will be posted on this page.
These visitor levy terms and conditions are updated as new information is provided by Government and/or Local Authorities. However, we always recommend that customers refer to the appropriate local authority website for the most up-to-date information.
