Club statement on hosepipe (Temporary Use) bans

Campsite water facilities

Monday 14th July 2025

The Camping and Caravanning Club is reminding campers, caravanners and motorhomers they should not be affected if and when a hosepipe ban comes into place in their area or where they are travelling to.

Hosepipe bans have been introduced by Yorkshire Water from 11th July, with South East Water enforcing a hosepipe ban in Kent and Sussex from 18th July. Thames Water has announced that a ban will come into operation across Swindon, Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Wiltshire on 22nd July.

The Club’s Technical Manager Ian Hewlett said: “The Club is clear that regulations regarding the hosepipe bans in Yorkshire and the South East of England  do not affect the use of a hosepipe to fill an internal water tank or aquaroll, if water is for domestic use such as cleaning, cooking and washing.

“Campers, caravanners and motorhomers are generally frugal when it comes to water usage when pitched up, but it is worth bearing in mind though people will not be able to wash their unit with a hosepipe during the current ban.”

If you want to clean your vehicle with water, use a bucket not a hose, or take it to a commercial car wash business which are still allowed to operate. Check water authority websites for information on hosepipe (Temporary Use) bans and FAQs on the subject.
