The Camping and Caravanning Club reveals UK’s best autumn sights

Monday 1st September 2025

The Club has named the best seasonal sights, places to visit and moments to capture this autumn, with expert photography tips to inspire campers to capture the season’s beauty.

The sights have been grouped together as part of the Club’s Autumn Weekends travel series – handpicked itineraries that span each weekend in September and October and take in different parts of the UK.

And to celebrate the season, the Club has launched a photo competition to find the best autumn photo.

Club President, wildlife cameraman, Hamza Yassin, has shared his top tip for capturing that perfect shot: “As a photographer, autumn provides lots of opportunities for a great photo and there’s a never-ending supply of subjects, from geese heading south from Greenland and Iceland to that lone oak tree on the hill that’s standing tall.

“My top tip for a perfect shot? Follow your instincts. If your environment is making you feel something, don’t walk away. Capture what you see on camera as chances are if something has triggered an emotion, it will look special when photographed and will remind you of that moment when you next look at the image.”

The Club has also shared its own expert tips to help entrants capture a winning photo, built around the senses:

  • S – Settings: If you are capturing photos in low-light, use a slow shutter speed or a long exposure. Many smartphones will adjust these settings automatically.
  • E – Engaging subjects: Use the "rule of thirds" to make your photos more dynamic. Imagine your photo is split into nine equal boxes and place your subject at one of the points where the lines meet, rather than in the centre.
  • N – Natural light: Autumn colours are beautiful on their own. Take advantage of natural light by shooting on a sunny day to enhance reds and browns, or on a calm, overcast day to capture a moody seascape.
  • S –Slow down: Don't rush. Play with different angles, lighting, and even the timer settings on your phone to find the perfect shot.
  • E – Emotions: What is it about a scene that makes you want to take a picture? Pick a subject that tells a story and stirs emotions…
  • S – Stay safe and consider the natural environment: Stick to marked walking routes and be mindful of wildlife habitats and restricted areas. Never put yourself or others in danger for a photo.

The Club’s Autumn Weekends itineraries provide inspiration for amazing photography settings and include some of the most stunning experiences around, from the best place to see the total lunar eclipse, to autumn colours on Loch Lomond and enjoying this year’s apple harvest in Herefordshire.

Submit your photos of autumn for a chance to win a great bundle of prizes, including photography equipment and a magical light trail experience for up to four people. Visit the Club’s Season of the Senses competition for more information.
