Be a part of camping history: Club launches competition to design its 125th anniversary pennon

Monday 3rd November 2025
The Camping and Caravanning Club is inviting members to design the celebratory pennon which will signify 125 years of the organisation.
The competition has been inspired by the early history of the Club pennon. The first was designed by a member, Miss Aldridge, in 1908 and made in silk by the Amateur Camping Club in 1909. Captain Robert Falcon Scott, the first Club President, carried it on his historic yet ill-fated journey to the South Pole.
In the years that have followed, Club members have displayed them at camping meets and rallies, often on “pennon trees”. Special editions have been created and each Club Site also has its own pennon, with designs unique to their location. The Nottingham Club Site pennon features an illustration of Robin Hood.
Sabina Voysey, the Club’s Director General, said: “For more than a century, Club pennons have been proudly flown by our members - from Club Sites all the way to the South Pole.
“As we mark 125 years, we’re celebrating everything the Club is today and the community we’re all part of. Our pennons are full of nostalgia, and this competition is a way to honour that heritage.
“There are more than 4,500 pennons in the Club’s Archive and our special edition anniversary pennon will join that collection, so it’s a great chance to leave a mark on Club history.”
Competition entries will be scored based on creativity, originality, relevance to the Camping and Caravanning Club's identity, and overall aesthetic. The chosen design will be brought to life and manufactured as the Club’s official 125 commemorative pennon. The winner will also receive a framed copy of their creation and be interviewed for Camping & Caravanning, the Club’s official magazine.
