RideLondon
London-Surrey
This festival of cycling starts 2 August with the Prudential RideLondon Cycling Show at ExCel, London. Saturday’s FreeCycle is a mass participation eight-mile (13k) ride past some of London’s most famous sights, plus you can watch a range of bike-based activities at one of the six Festival Zones. Sunday there’s more family-friendly cycling plus you can the world’s best professional cyclists in the RideLondon-Surrey Classic, part of the UCI WorldTour.

Edinburgh International Festival

See thousands of performers take to hundreds of stages all over Edinburgh to present shows of all kinds and for every taste at the city's Fringe Festival. Stars of the entertainment world as well as unknown artists looking to build their careers will be performing theatre, comedy, dance, circus, cabaret, opera and more for your entertainment.

2 – 24 August
The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo
Edinburgh, Scotland
Edinburgh Castle provides the stunning backdrop for this global gathering of military and cultural performers. This year’s Tattoo is inspired by the Kaleidoscope, created in 1816 by Scottish physicist Sir David Brewster, and will see almost 1,000 musicians, pipers, drummers, singers and dancers perform on the castle esplanade.

8 – 11 August
Bristol International Balloon Fiesta
Bristol
This annual free event held at the city’s Ashton Court Estate is the largest event of its kind in Europe. The Fiesta's mass balloon ascents at dawn and dusk will see more than 100 balloons taking off. After-dark the famous Night Glows sees balloons light up the sky in time to music, followed by a firework finale on the Saturday evening. Alongside the balloons, visitors can enjoy a large number of trade stands, fairground rides and entertainment.

Chilli Fiesta
Chichester, West Sussex
Taking place at West Dean Gardens near Chichester, the Chilli Fiesta has something for everyone with Latin dancing from BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing professionals, cookery demonstrations from contestants from Great British Bake Off, gardening demos, an outdoor cinema plus more than 140 stlls selling chilli gifts, food, plants and more.

Cowes Week
Isle of Wight
As the largest and oldest sailing regatta in the world Cowes Week brings together the world’s biggest sailing stars, with more than 1,000 yachts and 8,000 competitors taking part. In addition to the sailing, you can enjoy eight days of shore-side entertainment including music, entertainers and more.

The Garlic Festival

If you have a penchant for garlic the Garlic Festival is for you. Garlic ice cream, jelly beans, fudge and garlic beer are just some of the unusual garlic-based produce that can be sampled at this unique festival. Visitors can also enjoy a range of live music and children’s entertainers alongside all the garlic.

RHS Wisley Flower Show
Woking, Surrey
A plethora of colourful plants and garden sundries will be on offer at this late summer event from more than 50 specialist nurseries. There will also be an expert zone with talks and demos and ample opportunities to seek gardening advice. Plus the National Dahlia Society Annual Show will showcase the very best in dahlia cultivation in Britain.

Goodwood Revival
Chichester, West Sussex
13 – 15 September
The best of pre-1966 motors including classic and historic racing cars grace the track and paddocks of the historic Goodwood Motor Circuit for the Goodwood Revival, along with legendary drivers from past and present. Vintage fashion is at the heart of the event, with many visitors dressing in period style. Live music – from big band to jazz, and boogie-woogie to rock ‘n’ roll – all play a part in adding to the unique nostalgic atmosphere.

UCI Road World Championships
Yorkshire
The UCI Road World Championships will see 1,000 riders from 75 different countries compete in 12 races over eight days taking in some of Yorkshire’s most spectacular countryside. Race start venues include Beverley, Bradford, Doncaster, Leeds, Northallerton, Ripon and York and all races will finish in Harrogate, the event’s focal point.

3 – 6 October
Wales Rally GB
Llandudno, Wales
The British leg of the FIA World Rally Championship takes place over four thrilling days based In Llandudno. The proceedings get under starters orders on Liverpool’s Waterfront moving on to Oulton Park in Cheshire. The race returns to Aberhirnant forest near Bala for a stage in the darkness and on Saturday into mid Wales and the forests of Dyfi, Myherin and Sweet Lamb Hafren. There’s a family-friendly Saturday evening stage to be held on the promenade at Colwyn Bay, with the race concluding on Sunday in Llandudno.

14 – 17 November
Kendal Mountain Festival
Kendal, Cumbria
The Kendal Mountain Festival is a celebration of the very best in outdoor and adventure sport culture and attracts thousands of outdoor enthusiasts, industry specialists, athletes, top brands and equipment, artists, photographers, film makers, explorers and speakers from around the globe. The Mountain Film Competition is a main feature of the event, with entries competing to be the grand prize winner. There’s also a lecture programme, art exhibitions and book events.
