Get the Club's 2019/20 Winter Sun Camping brochure
Members can get a headstart on planning a winter sun break with the Club’s new 2019/20 Winter Sun Camping brochure, which is out in July.
It features a new rally site, Los Olivos in the Castellón region, plus a new en route stop at La Pindière in Nantes, as well as the usual popular campsites and rallies in locations such as Benidorm and La Manga in Spain, and Albufeira in Portugal.
We caught up with La Manga Rally Stewards Gerry and Trish Newton to get the inside knowledge:
“This winter will be our sixth year as rally stewards. Winter Sun Ralliers are a mixed crowd. Some come for the activities we lay on, others are sunbirds who come south for the winter. Last season we had a lot of early retirees who’ve made adjustments to their lifestyles to escape the rat race and free up more time for travel.
“The best thing about spending winter abroad has to be the weather. The winters are hard back home in Yorkshire. The sun on your back six hours
a day does wonders for your health and welfare.
“We’ve loved meeting all the different ralliers down the years, and with around 700 units a year over the winter months, that’s a lot of people. But most of them play nicely! One day we might write a book about our experiences and the times we’ve had.
“Three years ago ralliers donated funds to buy a defibrillator, and it’s saved lives on two occasions, with assistant steward Keith Thompson involved both times. Gerry used to train people in first aid, but last year on Boxing Day was the first time he’d used a defibrillator to save a life.
“Some ralliers love the walking and cycling we lay on, others love the occasional Bingo or social sundowner sessions in the afternoon. They love to share their knowledge and tips on what to do and where to go, such as the best time to get the bus to Cartagena for a day trip.
“We really appreciate the support of our rally goers and look forward to meeting them in the autumn. And the owners on site at La Manga are a joy to work with, they treat our steward team like family.”
- The brochure costs £10, refunded on booking. It’s sent free to the previous winter’s site bookers. Call 024 7642 2024 or visit the Travel Abroad section on the Club's website.
