Rally Info

(2017-18 Winter Season) - 19 Sep – 20 Apr Stewarded by Gerry and Trish Newton. While autumn is generally less busy than the winter period, a good programme of activities is usual, with more and more members discovering the benefits of a warm early autumn break. The rally builds in popularity to the peak period, usually from Christmas to the beginning of March, when the area is bustling with visitors from across Europe, the site is in very high demand, and early booking for your full intended stay is essential. Previous rally activities have included seasonal rally balls, theme meal nights, fancy dress nights and shows by ralliers, craft sessions, line dancing, yoga, Pilates, quiz evenings, games nights, boules, skuttles, BBQs, walks, hikes, bike rides, distillery or bodega trips, excursions to places of interest, bonfire night and New Year's Eve fireworks, and more.

A valid Camping Card International (CCI), available from the Club, is required for all our overseas rallies.

Rally Tips

This large rally is a favourite and extremely popular, and members should book the maximum stay required. Arriving early or extending your stay on site may not be possible, especially in January and February but increasingly during other periods, with any such extensions to be made at reception via the Rally Stewards and charged at the full public tariff.

The campsite is in an area with a great deal to offer, and the rally usually varies in character from the autumn (which is now becoming more and more popular), through the Christmas and New Year festivities, and then into the peak in January to mid-March. In quieter times, at the discretion of the Rally Stewards, some activities may be opened up to other campers, so as to ensure their viability. Conversely, space may be at a premium for some activities (perhaps rally dinners, for example), which may operate on a ticket-only basis. The rally is complemented by a full programme of site-organised excursions, fitness activities and social events. To try out a first visit, we recommend a stay of at least two weeks, as any ticketed events (especially during the peak) often sell out 10-14 days beforehand.

Up to 151 rally pitches (subject to demand), in areas I/J and K. 100m² pitches are in area I/J, adjacent to K.

Reception and supermarket 350m away from centre of area K. Pool bar function room adjacent to main rally area K. Mirador main function room, bar and restaurant all next to the beach, 750m.

Rally Date: 19 09 2017 - 20 04 2018

Overview

With its great location on the Mar Menor lagoon, La Manga is a destination with lots to offer.

La Manga resort, the beautiful coastal area of Calblanque, fishing villages such as Cabo de Palos, and several golf courses are close by, while the whole region is reported to have the lowest average rainfall in Europe. Walking and cycling in the locality are popular occupations among members here, but it’s also a great site for simply relaxing, with the convivial tapas bar on the beach a favourite spot for passing the time. Our most popular site, this winter La Manga will have been welcoming Club members for 20 years, and offers rallying from early autumn right through into spring. The peak period is December to early March, while other times are generally quieter, although during Semana Santa (Holy Week, leading up to Easter Sunday), the campsite and the local area are likely to be very busy as Spanish campers come to celebrate. During this week local celebrations can last well into the night and provide an insight into how Spanish people love a fiesta.

Our first time at La Manga & on a rally.

This review is for La Manga

Our first time at La Manga & on a rally. Good points - pitches are fine, wifi good, restaurant good, price cheap. Not so good points - toilet blocks are like something from the 1980's, broken doors, broken tiles around the outside wash facilities, damp on the ceilings and outside walls, water either takes your skin off or freezes the proverbial bits with no adjustment possible. Cleaners do an excellent job of trying to make them look good but it is beyond their intentions. The general site, recreational and beach areas are very run down and don't appear to have had any investment for some long time. The " tented city " is an area that is not at all attractive. The shop is unfriendly and a bit of a tip in some parts, plus being a health hazard in the fresh meat and bread combined area. There are very few lights in the camping area which, for winter long stayers is not good - probably why many keep their Christmas lights up until they leave in March/April. Dust from the fields alongside the pitch area covers everything and probably causes much of the coughing that is evident all around. We also object to having to pay all the fees upfront - we will be leaving early, so quite a bit of wasted cash. It is worth mentioning that many people return year after year ( one chap had been coming for 18 years ) so it attracts many - however, those we spoke to always agreed about the poor facilities and general site appearance. They are aware of the many broken promises made over the years to improve the situation. Generally they shrugged and stated price was a major factor in their continued visiting, but also that the friends they had built up over the years were important. Certainly not for us but many find it acceptable .

We were there from mid November to mid January.

This review is for La Manga

We were there from mid November to mid January. This was our first rally and although it took us a couple of weeks to get into what was going on we found everybody very helpful and friendly. Lots of rally activities to chose from. Nice flat walks from site if that's what you are looking for. Good walk to Mar de Cristal and the Arena Bar/cafe for refreshment before walking back to campsite across the shrub lands. Easy walk into Los Belones where there is a good variety of shops and eating places. During the time we were there, other than Los Belones, the other places within walking distance were like ghost towns! If you have a bike you would be able to go further and find civilisation! Due to Peter pulling a calf muscle after being there a month we weren't able to join in much but everybody was very helpful offering to get shopping etc. The Stewards and Assistant Stewards are fantastic and a big thankyou to Howard and Kath for exercising our dog with theirs during Peter's incapacity. We really enjoyed Christmas and New Year. Wish we had known to bring dressier clothing though but we weren't the only ones who were in the minority underdressed attire! Would highly commend the Spanish health service if you need to use it.
