History of Wembley Stadium

Wembley Stadium originally opened in 1923 and became one of the most iconic sporting venues in the world. It famously hosted the 1966 FIFA World Cup final, where England defeated West Germany to win their first and only World Cup trophy.

Unfortunately, due to its ageing structure and outdated facilities, the stadium was demolished to make way for a new, modern replacement. Reopening in 2007, the new and improved Wembley Stadium features state-of-the-art facilities, increased capacity, and the famous arch, which has replaced the Twin Towers as its defining landmark.

Things to do at Wembley Stadium

There’s plenty to see and do when visiting Wembley Stadium, even outside of major events. One of the highlights is the Wembley Stadium Tour, which takes you behind the scenes to explore areas such as the players’ tunnel, dressing rooms and the pitchside. The nearby OVO Arena Wembley also hosts concerts, comedy shows and sporting events, adding to the lively atmosphere.

Even on quieter days, the iconic arch and open spaces around the stadium make it a great spot for photos and a relaxing walk.
