LUCKY WINNER TAKES HOME £38,000 PRIZE IN CAMPING AND CARAVANNING CLUB COMPETITION
A Buckinghamshire woman has won a New Generation Hyundai i30 plus Swift Basecamp camping crossover vehicle (CCV) worth over £38,000 in a Camping and Caravanning Club competition.
Rachael Gurr, from Milton Keynes, joined by her husband Noel and 10-week-old son Benjamin, collected their prizes at the Caravan, Camping & Motorhome Show at NEC Birmingham on Tuesday 20 February 2018. Alongside the car and caravan, the family also won a year’s free membership to the Club, plus a Club Caravan Manoeuvring Course for beginners.
The prize was awarded by the Club, Hyundai and Swift as part of the Club’s ‘No B+E Licence? No Problem!’ campaign, which runs to reassure drivers who passed their tests on or after 1 January 1997 that they can tow plenty of modern car and caravan combinations despite only holding a category B driving licence.
Those motorists who passed their test after this date automatically hold a category B car license, which enables them to tow car and caravan outfits with a combined maximum authorised mass of no more than 3,500kg. However, there are plenty of family car and caravan combinations that fall within this limit which can be legally and safely matched and towed in comfort.
The Hyundai New Generation i30 is a dynamic and refined hatchback. Spacious on the inside, economic and enjoyable to drive, it’s perfect for adventurous holidays and everyday driving.
The Swift Basecamp is for active adventurers seeking thrills off the beaten track, whatever the weather. Compact and lightweight for easy towing, vital kit can be securely stowed, and it is packed with mod cons so outdoor enthusiasts can refuel, relax, get out and do more.
Rachael, aged 32, said: “We feel like we’ve outgrown tents as a family but had never really thought about caravans.
“I want to explore the UK with my husband and I think the first place we’ll visit is the Peak District. My husband is American and we haven’t been able to travel and see that much of the UK yet – perhaps now is the time to do it.
“We would not have been able to afford to buy a caravan so winning the competition opens up a whole way of holidaying that just would not have been an option for us. We’d like to get away for long weekends and it feels easier than staying in hotels. We’ll see if we can squeeze the dog in sometimes too!”
David Pugh, Marketing Director at Hyundai, said: “The New Generation i30 is a hugely popular family car that doubles as a very capable tow car too. We wish Rachael and family many happy years of driving and touring.”
Nick Page, Commercial Director at Swift Group, said: "Basecamp is built for adventure, and we hope Rachael and family enjoy plenty of adventures with it in the months and years to come.
"Cool and compact, Basecamp can be towed by a smaller car so couples and small families can embrace the Great Outdoors without passing another driving test."
Simon McGrath, Senior Communications Manager at The Camping and Caravanning Club, said: "Rachael and family are the perfect winners for this prize, and will undoubtedly enjoy the flexibility and freedom that comes with this prize combination.
"They're now able to hitch up and set off on a weekend away at a moment's notice, while having the facilities on board needed for having a little one in tow."
Following the success of the ‘No B+E Licence? No Problem!’ campaign, the Club has launched a new competition to win an All-New Hyundai KONA and Swift Basecamp Plus for 2018. Visit the Club's website to enter the competition online.
