NEC SHOW SPECIAL:
NEW APP FOR SMARTER CARAVANNING
Caravanners with an interest in gadgets will like this device: it’s called the SMART-Trailer App, from Dutch firm E-trailer, and takes its British bow at the Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show from 20-25 February 2018.
Sold exclusively in the UK by RoadPro, the Daventry-based specialist in supplying 12V and 24V products to the touring caravan and motorhome market, SMART-Trailer’s different modules help you keep an eye on a number of crucial caravanning functions.
First, you need to fit the E-connect, which is the central hub, by wiring it to your caravan leisure battery. The manufacturer reckons this is a simple enough fit for a competent DIYer. Once installed, it talks to your smartphone by Bluetooth, with a number of different modules to fit your caravanning needs.
There’s an E-level module that helps you level your caravan on site: from front to back and side to side. Next, the E-pressure monitors your caravan’s tyre pressures: simply replace your valve cap, and it’ll keep you updated on the pressure of your tyres, and let you know with an alert if one deflates suddenly.
E-switch tells you if you’ve forgotten to close your caravan door, window or rooflight, and E-temperature updates you on the temperature and humidity inside your caravan or fridge. Finally, e-volt monitors the condition of your caravan’s leisure battery.
The starter package of main module and caravan leveller costs £164. The £309 ‘Safety Pack’ buys you two further modules: the tyre pressure monitoring system and the warning on your smartphone in the case of an open window or roof hatch. And if you opt for the £379 ‘Comfort Pack’ then you also get the temperature monitoring module, and the battery monitor. It’s not cheap, but it’s a simple, modern and effective way of keeping an eye on the health of your tourer on the road.
