Outdoors for All speaks for millions
The Club was among 42 leading organisations that joined forces for a parliamentary event to celebrate the Outdoors for All manifesto in March.
The initiative seeks to extend responsible access to more green and blue landscapes, and calls for new legislation to open up more of our countryside for public enjoyment.
Held at the Houses of Parliament, and sponsored by Tracey Crouch MP and Kim Leadbeater MP, the Secretary of State RT Hon Steve Barclay and Shadow Minister for Nature & Rural Affairs Toby Perkins MP spoke at the event.
Mr Barclay said it is of “great value” and the “right thing to do” for people to spend more time outdoors to stay healthy. He said the government is looking at “more permissive access” to incentivise landowners “to open up their land and waterways”.
Mr Perkins said Labour shared the government’s aim of ensuring the public lives within a 15-minute walk of woodlands, wetlands, parks and rivers. However, about 20 million people currently don’t have that access.
Club Head of Communications and External Relations Simon McGrath, pictured right, alongside Kevin East of the Canoe-camping Club attended the event. For the full manifesto, visit the Club's Media Centre for details.
