Hills are wonderful. They offer big views, a sense of achievement when you reach the top and a big tick on any peak-baggers ‘to walk’ list. But by only looking up you often miss what’s right under your nose. I’m talking, of course, about valleys, these naturally cleaved slivers of prime walking territory, created by glaciers and rivers over millennia. Whether offering a hot bed of geological anomalies, a plethora of stories fed by local lore, or simply a picture-perfect backdrop, consider heading for one of these natural crevices and you’ll find that even when walking at a low elevation, you can experience a real high…
