Phoenix is Bailey’s new lead-in range, launched in the summer of 2018, to replace the outgoing Pursuit, and here I cast an eye over the four-berth Phoenix 440. It’s one of seven models that make up the range. On first impressions, it’s immediately clear the Phoenix is styled in line with Bailey’s other caravan ranges, the Pegasus and Unicorn. For starters, it features the trademark Bailey caravans vertical front window. The Phoenix gets a black A-frame cowling and, impressively, an AKS hitch head stabiliser as standard. However, the handbrake is button-operated – which is the case for many budget-brand tourers – and the ATC stability programme is a dealer-fit cost option. There’s no front gas locker – instead, this is mounted near the axle on the offside, which Bailey claims gives better on-road stability. The connections for the habitation services are on the offside too, except the mains electric hook-up inlet which, unfortunately, is on the nearside so you’ll have to trail a hook up lead through any awning on site.
