Lakeland’s tenth annual Keswick Mountain Festival will host celebrity speakers including Club President Julia Bradbury
Keswick Mountain Festival (KMF) is set to welcome thousands of visitors once again to its base at Crow Park on the banks of Derwentwater from 19-22 May, along with a line-up of inspirational outdoor guest speakers. It’s the festival’s tenth anniversary.
Book a seat to hear celebrity guests discuss their latest adventures, including Club President Julia Bradbury (at 7.30pm on 19 May), explorer and broadcaster Monty Halls, double Olympic gold medallist James Cracknell, and mountaineer Alan Hinkes.
Set in the heart of the Lake District National Park this increasingly popular festival will celebrate the many adventures to be had in the great outdoors, with various activities on offer throughout the event including trail running, open water swimming, wild camping, gorge scrambling, navigation, hiking, sailing, moonlit canoeing, paddle boarding and mountain biking, along with competitive fell races, lake swims and cycle rides.
Athletes young and not-so-young can also pre-book to take part in one of three types of triathlon to fit their abilities. There’s also tree climbing, mud pie making, den building, caving and a ‘clip and climb’ tower on offer for young families.
Those who prefer to sedately soak up the atmosphere can explore the Festival Village with all its entertainment, refreshment and retail therapy.
On the Friday and Saturday evening the Festival Village will host live music with a line-up featuring headliners Scouting for Girls, Toploader and Björn Again supported by The Soul Rays, Holy Moly and The Crackers, The Peatbog Faeries, Annemarie Quinn, Sound of the Sirens and Thingumabob and Thingumajigs.
The early reopening on 11 May of the storm-damaged A591 route between Keswick and Grasmere has come as welcome news for the Festival along with local businesses that have struggled with limited transport links since the road closed last December.
Nicola Meadley, Keswick Mountain Festival director, commented: “Now that the A591 is open again, thousands of visitors will discover for themselves that this beautiful area is ready to welcome the world again this summer.”
