Picnics in the snow

The Bush Gear Lunchbox in the snow...

One of the challenges of writing for the magazine is the need to put things together well ahead of publication date. As a result, I’m putting the final rather-later-than-they-should-be touches to a Gear Guide on picnics today, which is scheduled for March’s issue.

We had a successful test of a Stainless Steel Lunchbox from Bush Gear (pictured) a couple of weeks ago, though the contents were consumed inside school rather than sitting on a picnic mat.

Its sturdy design and two compartments (keeping the pasta away from the salad, so the salad remained crisp) was a great success. The Lunchbox's big brother, the three-part Tiffin Carrier, will be appearing in March’s Gear Guide.

Candy Evans is Test Editor for Camping & Caravanning. She took a less conventional path into magazine journalism via physics and a decade in computer consultancy, turning to caravanning and writing during a career break as a full-time mum. Her interests are wide and include the Club’s Archive – though she’s careful to wash her hands after checking 1919 editions of the Club’s magazine to avoid lurking traces of influenza.

video blog

Web videos - seems like that's all everybody is talking about lately. You can watch them on your TV, your laptop, tablet, mobile phone; I even hear there's a pair of glasses in the making that will project videos directly into your field of vison! But maybe that's a little bit too sci-fi for now.

I read a stat recently that said that YouTube alone has 72 hours of video content uploaded every minute! With so much video conent for us to soak up from pretty much any platfrom that we choose, it's important to stand out as a content generator.

We want to make sure that when we're producing video content, we're not giving you the same film twice. Thats why were going to try and experiment as much as possible to bring you lots of lovely, new, shiney content.

Food Glorious Food!

Our new Eat Local Guide

Food has been a pretty big focus for the team here at HQ in recent months. I’m not talking about what we are scoffing for lunch but the Club’s Eat Local campaign which we are about to re-launch at the Spring Caravan & Camping Show at the NEC Birmingham next week.

With the help of partners Calor and Outwell, we’ve been working on a range of videos and new web pages as well as a guidebook aimed at inspiring campers to get behind the campaign and to get talking about food.

Written by Ali Ray, our magazines Eat Local columnist, the guide features a handful of our Club Sites and Ali’s suggestions of her top food spots nearby. I hope you enjoy it and feel inspired to offer your suggestions...
